Nikon EN-EL18 reviews

EN-EL18 Rechargeable Li-ion Battery is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 55.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Lot's of convenient power This is the Mandatory battery for the D4 and works great on that camera even with power hungry GPS and WIFI accessories. It can optionally be used on the D800/E when using the MB-D12 grip. Battery life on the D800/E when running GPS and WIFI isn't the best. To maximize battery life the MB-D12 with this EN-EL18 is a great option. Lots of runtime. Far better than the EN-EL15 and better than AAs. Note that while the MB-D12 can accept this battery with the BL-5 battery chamber cover, most 3rd party grips cannot.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from No Worries I was a bit nervous about whether or not the EL18 would perform as well as the the EL18a batteries I use with Nikon D4S. No worries ... the EL18 works just fine and I have no complaints.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good reason to buy OEM Im a semi-pro photographer and spend a lot of time in cold climates photographing wildlife. I have a Nikon D2Xs, D300 and a D4, and every camera runs on Nikon batteries without issues no matter what the temp. I have (had) one Non-Nikon battery that let me down when it indicated a full charge, it even indicated it was calibrated, but when I had focusing issues I checked the voltage using a meter only to find the voltage was no where near where it needed to be.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good battery/planned obsolescence Nikon makes great batteries along with a lot of other things. But unlike Nikon's usual MO, they are now evidently building in planned obsolescence. For this battery they moved the contacts to the other side so a D2, D3, D3x battery will not work with a D4. So if you carry an older body for back-up, you also have to carry extra batteries and and extra charger. It's shameful.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works fine, but would get the EN-EL-18A next time Battery works as expected in the D4. For $20 more you can get the EN-EL18a with increased capacity. Much better buy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Long lasting and well made I am buying a backup battery for my Nikon d4 so when I travel for a week at a time I will not have to take the large charger and cord along in my camera bag. The EN-EL18 batteries charge lasts a long time. I would only buy the Nikon product because they have never let me down. I have heard horror stories about off brand batteries that can damage your camera by overheating or shorting out.The negative is that Nikon changes type of batteries often with new models of cameras making the battery chargers and batteries obsolete.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not very sexy...but it does what you need it to do. Nikon batteries rock. I have not had much success with 3rd party batteries. I see others rave about them and the associated savings. I wish I had the same experience. However, both times I have tried them, I have had them die very prematurely. I am still using one of the two Nikon batteries I bought in 2008 for my D3. This battery is a third going into rotation for my D4. I expect a D4s will shortly join the party and finally I will sell of he D3 and have a primary and backup camera that can share batteries.
