  • 1Description

The EF 24mm f/2.8 IS USM Lens from Canon is a wide-angle prime lens that gives you superb image quality in a compact form, it is ideal as an everyday "walk-around" lens.  Equipped with Canon's Optical Image Stabilizer, it provides up to 4 stops of shake correction and is effective in low light. A ring-type Ultrasonic Focus Motor (USM) and advanced CPU with optimized AF algorithms provide fast, smooth and silent auto focusing which is especially important when shooting video. Full-time manual focusing is available even while in AF mode.

Aspherical lens elements reduce aberrations and help improve image quality on the periphery and Canon lens coatings minimize ghosting and flare. With a minimum focusing distance of 7.9", the lens can create powerful and inclusive wide-angle images.

    Canon 24mm f/2.8 reviews

EF 24mm f/2.8 IS USM Lens is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 67.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quite Satisfied I own the 24-70 2.8L and the 24 - 105 4.0L. my biggest gripe has been the the lack of sharpness on the edges at the widest angle at 24 mm, as well as the darkness around the edges during indoor group shooting. I purchase the 24 mm 2.8 IS because I was tied of the poor quality of my wide angle group shoots with the 24-70, I must say this lens is a breath of fresh air, I am quite please with the results. I f you find yourself shooting a lot of indoor group shoots, this lens will will make one very happy, I considered the the 24 mm 1.4 L but this is a pleasing cheaper alternative.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for Architecture and Low Light I bought this lens to replace my 17-55 2.8 lens. First of all it is compatible with my full frame camera and my small sensor 7D as well. This is very useful. I tried it out in San Antonio on the River Walk at Christmas. The night shots were outstanding and have garnered many good comments. Then on Christmas day I walked around downtown early in the morning. The lens is perfect for shooting architecture. I am going to Venice in April. I intend to use this lens for the canal scenes where a wide angle is needed and sharpness is a must. So far, I have no complaints. The lens is extremely light for walk around photography and the IS is an added plus. I would definitely recommend this lens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Favorite lens so far I bought this lens to use in low light places such as bars for promotional work. This thing is so much better for me than my 50 1.4 or 18-55 and 55-250. It works. The low light capabilities combined with the wide angle have produced images better than I ever dreamed of straight out of the camera. The IS is an extra feature that I haven't used other than for video. Quick focus. Sharp from edge to edge. I've used this for many landscape pictures and long exposures. The lens rarely comes off my camera. It's light enough for a walk around lens. By far the best lens I own. I was shocked that it wasn't an "L" series lens with how sharp and bright it was. Definitely worth the money. I even bought a friend one I liked it that much.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A must have for shooting large groups in tight spaces I am a nightclub photographer and need a wide lens with low aperture. I have been using a 17-40mm f4 but sometimes have to shoot as high as 8000 iso with a Canon 6D. The photos still come out great surprisingly, but I don't want to have to shoot that high. With a 24mm f2.8 I have a great lens that performs awesome in low light, even better with a flash, and is wide enough to get the shots I need, but still does not distort people when shooting vertically. I have only used it 2 nights, but already I can leave the other lens at home. This is a lens that is the perfect focal length for what I need.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Joy to use this lens I have to thank for Canon finally putting an IS on their prime lens. For those people like me who have hand-shaking problem is really a good news. The lens has good build quality although it's not an L. I used it on my T4i to keep my camera small and lightweight and with the crop factor the lens became 38mm which is suitable for anything. It's also exciting that I can shoot as close as 7 inches. Using it on 5d mk2 gave slightly better images and less distortions comparing with my 24-105L. But it still show some light fall off at corners.Overall I am quite pleased with the performance and quality of the lens except for the price is too expansive. The lens hood is not included and have to pay $ for that hood.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great everyday lens I use this with my 60D and find that it is my go-to lens for everyday use. The images are sharp and with a cropped frame camera I get the majority of the scene in my photos. I have also used this photographing my children in our little studio and it works really nice for getting full body shots and action shots too. Focuses maybe a little slow, at least when photographing the kids, but I just switch to manual then and have no problem. Definitely a great alternative if you can't afford the f1.4 like me!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Multiple uses I bought this lens so i could use it on the APS-C T4i i currently own, and also have it as a wide angle prime, should i get a full frame canon in the future. Lenses are all about trade offs. Sure, i wish it was a 1.8f, but one gets compact size and weight, IS, quite good build quality, and quite good contrast and sharpness. The focus is also very fast and seems to be quite accurate. The combination of fast focusing, 2.8f and IS make it a great lens for low light shooting, and fast responsive street photography shooting. I give it 4 stars due to its somewhat high price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A nice lens I use the lens for interior shots and other tight spaces. I am impressed with the image stabilizer. I have been able to get sharp images at 1/6 of a second. However, I also own the Canon 28 f/2.8 IS lens. The Canon 28mm IS is sharper wide open and has less chromatic aberration at all f stops. Buy the 28mm IS unless you really need the extra coverage of the 24mm. But if you need a small light 24mm lens you can't go wrong with this lens.
