Celestron 93435 overview

  • 1Description

Celestron engineered their Luminos 31mm Eyepiece to provide you with a comfortable 82° field of view, and made the entire series parfocal, allowing you to change it out with other Luminos eyepieces without having to adjust the focus. This allows you to spend more time viewing while reducing the chance of hitting the scope out of alignment. This model features a 6-element lens configuration and is fully multi-coated to improve image brightness and contrast. Its 2" diameter barrel fits the same size drawtube or accessories, and has machined filter threads to accept eyepiece filters. Made of a lightweight and durable aluminum alloy with an anodized finish, the body has a slip-resistant rubber collar, and an innovative retractable eyecup that pops up when you need it and drops down when you don't with a simple twist.

    Luminos 31mm Eyepiece (2") is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great View This eyepiece offers one of the best views. I am able to see all of the Orion Nebula with my 8 OTA. The field of view is crisp from edge to edge and works great in my 8 telescope. If your looking for a wide angle low power eyepice in the 2 in class I would recomemend this eyepice without hesitation. This has been one of the best additions to my eyepice collection.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Eyepiece, but not for everyone I've used this during three nights of viewing with my c6 sct with 2 diagonal on an Evolution mount. The sky was clear each night and I have a typical level urban light pollution. The views of open clusters and the Orion Nebula were stunning. Compared to a 32mm plossl this eyepiece provides an impressive panoramic view. The optics are very good and this is a worthwhile investment. The wanning gibous moon filled the field with detail and sharp clarity. The 82 degree field of view is wider than I could take in without gazing around the eyepiece. With the plossl you can see the entire field. With the Luminos about 2/3 of the field has pinpoint sharpness. Both stars and moon features were in crisp and perfectly in focus. I observed several more faint stars with the Luminos that I couldn't see with the plossl which is an indication of the quality of the optics. However the outer part of the field lost a bit of sharpness and a bit of tweaking would bring it nearly into focus. The lack of edge to edge sharpness is probably due to limitations of my c6 and not the eyepiece itself. Contrast was very similar to the plossl across the field. It takes some practice to clearly observe objects near the perimeter of the field. What I found is that I would see an interesting feature at the edge of the field and then skew over to observe it while centered. This is a benefit of the wide view, not a fault. Each eyepiece has its own personality, and this one is quite easy to get along with. The 31mm eyepiece is HUGE and hefty which I knew in advance. It looks a bit out of place (but impressive) mounted on the diagonal of the C6. My system supported it without any problems, but I could see where balance and equipment limitations could be an issue for some users. The first few minutes I kept checking the tightening screws on the eyepiece holder and the diagnonal to make sure it was secure. The retractable eyecup was very stiff the first time I tried to use it. I wasn't sure which part of the body of the eyepiece actually needed to be turned to raise it up. There is no documentation provided with the eyepiece, so it took a minute or two to deploy it. I needed to hold the bottom of the eyepiece with one hand while twising the rubber grip with the other hand using a bit of force. Otherwise, the entire eyepiece spun in the holder. It loosened a bit after working it up and down a few times. Adjusting the height of the eyecup helps place your eye at the best distance for viewing. There's plenty of eye relief for my naked eye. This is one impressive eyepiece. I like it and recommend it for those wanting a wide field of view. I just received the 15mm version of the Luminos which I haven't used yet - It's like the cute little baby sister of the 31mm. The 82 degrees would be the widest I'll want to go. Otherwise, the outer part of the field would be wasted for me. This is a nearly perfect low power eyepiece for casual viewing.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Heavy but a fine eyepiece This is an excellent eyepiece, great field of view and reasonably undistorted to the edges. Note that it is big and heavy so make sure your scope and mount can take it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A big well made eyepiece. I received this eyepiece 2 weeks ago. It's a big one eyepiece, it weighs 2+ pounds you should consider your mount & tripod payload capacity before you bought it
