    Olympus BCN-1 reviews

BCN-1 Battery Charger for BLN-1 is rated 3.2 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from To fix the huge AC cable issue To all that are hating the 6' charger cable. I just bought a USA IEC 60320-C7 2 prong receptacle to USA NEMA 1-15P 2 prong plug adapter. The one I purchased is a straight Yung Li YL-1113, but they have a right angle one as well. It is about 1.5 in total length and I keep it plugged into my charge at all times in my bag, I ordered it off another site for $6. (I looked on B&H but could not find one) As for the charger, it is slow, and badly designed, so I had to buy this to make it usable. It came with my E-M1, so I did not buy the charger directly.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Ridiculously Long Power Cord OK, it does what it is supposed to do - charge the battery. But the six foot power cord is ridiculous and completely inconvenient when travelling. And, this is not limited to chargers from Olympus. The obvious solution is a fold out plug but it is easier for manufacturers simply to use separate power cords in their different worldwide markets since there is no universal worldwide standard for power plugs and receptacles. A number of aftermarket chargers I've tried seem to do the job but do not give an accurate indication of the charge status and have a lower quality build. You can, however, buy separate plug adapters that eliminate the need to carry around the long power cord they are available in straight and right angle configurations (see photo). But I did not see these on the B&H website. They are made by Yung Li; if you google the name you will find the US distributor where there is a link to a retail source. Hey B&H it would be much more convenient for us if you stocked these and if you were to show them with accessories for cameras and chargers that use the very inconvenient long power cords; you would probably sell a lot of them!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Very poor design Although it is an accessory for a small camera, the charger is larger than necessary. Worse, it requires a separate power cord that is as large and heavy as the charger. My charger for my Canon DSLR is much smaller and easier to carry. Further, the charger has only a single light to tell you whether the battery is finished charging. There is no way to judge progress or the current state of charge. Worse, the light goes OUT when the battery is charged--just as it would if the charger lost power for some reason.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from BCN-1 Battery Charger not convenient I just received my BCN-1 charger, and was disappointed to find that it comes with a bulky a.c. cable, instead of the usual flip-up a.c. prongs. Since I'll be using this on my new foreign travel camera (Olympus OM-D E-M5), the greatly increased bulk of this charger system will tend to make me leave it at home (this is my 2nd charger...I travel with 2 batteries/chargers). I'm looking forward to someone making a multi-battery charger. BTW, a nice feature of this charger is that it works on 110/220v.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I would buy as needed anytime! Nothing better than the Olympus OEM charger for BLN-1 battery. Not fast but keeps battery in good shape. Needed another one to charge the second battery in side grip handle at the same time.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from It's a charger...with a really long cord It does what it's supposed to do which is charge Olympus batteries (in this case an OMD EM5 Mark II). What I don't like compared to, say, Canon, is that it doesn't have flip out prongs. The cord is a nuisance.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Replace the cord (obviously) I got one of these with my Pen F. It charges the battery, so there is little to complain about. As for the need for a power cord, simply use an adapter plug as some other reviewers have shown. BTW, this is not unique to Olympus; my Nikon D700 and one of my Canon cameras also have chargers with long, bulky cords. Having a $5 adapter can be very handy.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from The only choice available... The product works fine but so does any almost battery charger. Make a product befitting of the compact camera it serves. Oly, please provide a two prong wall jack at the charger itself and ditch the clumsy six foot cord!
