The white/gray/black 10 x 12' Accent Muslin Background Kit from Savage is the perfect tool for the portrait shooter who needs a completely portable studio or location setup. The one-piece muslin is quite versatile for all kinds of shoots - people, products, commercial, weddings or whatever comes down the road. It's made with a 3" rod pocket for easy hanging. The muslin is also washable.
What is the length of the crossbar in the Port-A-Stand? Also, is the crossbar one solid piece, or a snap together, or other?

Do you think this is a better deal than the savage economy product?

I'd say it depends on what you're shooting. We definitely needed the width, and it was helpful to have multiple muslin colors from the start. We also went with this because we needed full body shots to key, and the added length in muslin allowed for it.If you are shooting basic head shots or head and shoulder shots for video you might be fine with the economy backdrop. If you want options (also if you want muslin vs paper, paper is cheaper but doesn't last as long and harder to move around) I'd go with this kit.

I am new to studio lighting and I am thinking of buying this kit as my first background set. I am also buying from you the lighting kit ( Impact Three Monolight Portrait Boom Kit with Case (120VAC))... and I was wondering if the background kit material, size & color choices are something that would all work with the lights I am buying as a starter purchase. Are marbled colored back drops better/easier to start with..etc? Also, is there anything else I would need to purchase to make this fully functional for me?

I have just the black one, with the stand, and I'm loving it I wish I had bought the 3 colours, its VERY easy to put the stand together and adjust it, and the material seems lightweight but durable, I've only had it for a few days so haven't fully put it to the test but as far as I can tell it's going to be perfect; easy to carry with me, set up, and take down, and wash!
