Vanguard 8420 overview

  • 1Description

The Spirit XF 8420 Binocular from Vanguard competes with high-end binoculars for the amount of features that are included in this 8x 42mm roof design. Roof prisms offer a smaller, lighter, sleeker architecture with fewer internal parts. The fully coated optics are made with superior BAK4 glass as well as emerald coating to ensure vivid and natural shades of green.

Textured rubber armoring provides a secure and comfortable grip, as well as added shock-resistance. O-ring sealing and nitrogen charging furnish waterproof and fogproof protection making the Spirit XF suitable for all types of outdoor activities in any kind of weather. The open-bridge architecture is visually pleasing and adds to the lightweight of the binocular. Multiple-position twist-out eyecups and a smooth-motion diopter ring allow comfort customized viewing with or without sun or eyeglasses. This is a full-featured binocular at a popular price.

Wide AAoV of 62.3°
Nitrogen charged, o-ring sealed waterproof and fogproof for all weather conditions
Twist-up eyecups and a right eye diopter customize these binoculars to personal preference
BAK4 prisms and emerald coating deliver clear images, excellent resolution and brighter color separation
Fully multi coated optics provide multiple layers on all air to glass surfaces for a brighter, higher-contrast image with less eyestrain

Vanguard 8420 reviews

Spirit XF 8420 Binocular is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from these glasses are sweet I use this product while still hunting deer with my longbow. The are so sharp with unbelievable clearaty.I am very impressed with their sharpness even in low light conditions. Not a major complaint but a lock on the focus would be a nice feature.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Vanguard Spirit XF 8 X 42 binos rock Ive been a bird-watcher for 55 yrs and currently live on a greenbelt with an amazing variety of field, perching, buteos and water birds. We are also on the Pacific flyway, so we get migratories thruout the year as well. Ive put up with $19.95 quality binos since i was 9. One pair that i spurged on was a very rare $27.99 pair of 8X42s in 1981. Those became my go-to pair. With all the little allusive 'little browns' and 'little greens' that we have here, i found that i needed a closer focus than 20'. A pro birdwatcher neighbor has a pair of 'behind the Iron Curtain' sounding pair of binos that cost more than my 1st new car in the 70s. Close focusing became a sudden priority. I researched for weeks and finally decided on the Spirit XFs. We are in our monsoon season when they arrived promptly, but i HAD to try em out. I am in awe. I wear glasses fulltime now and with the adjustable eyecups, i found that i had a fantasticly wide field of view with glasses on. The multi-featured rubberized coating made them easy to hold, the lighter weight made for longer viewing sessions than i'm used to. Being able to visualize the checkerboard markings of a Red-Shouldered Hawk, 300' away, thru the bright optics, even on a dark gloomy day, was spectacular. The great bonus was being able to zero-in on a 'little brown' Bushtit, barely 6' away, and with the wide viewing angle, being able to stay with him as he flitted and cavorted about. I found the supplied neckstrap and case to be quite nice. My only addition would be a small pocket inside the case flat for a lens cleaning cloth, and a 2nd strap extension so one could stay on the binos and one on the case. I'll be ordering one soon. Overall, I am extreemly pleased with this purchase. The on-line reviews were quite accurate.
