ZEISS Conquest HD 10x42 Overview

The 10x42 Conquest HD Binoculars from ZEISS have a higher magnification that allows concentrating on a more focused subject for greater detail. The golden-mean objective size provides sufficient light-gathering ability for the twilight zones of dusk and dawn without the added bulk of an oversized objective. Watersports and rainy days won't require leaving this item in the car or backpack. The binoculars are waterproof to 13' and nitrogen filled to provide fogproofing and inhibit any condensation buildup.

ZEISS high-quality optics play a major role in the superiority of these binoculars. Multi-layer coating reduces light loss and glare due to reflection, offering a brighter, higher-contrast image and light transmission of more than 90%. High-density (HD) glass reduces the chromatic aberration that appears as unwanted "fringes" of color between dark and bright parts of an image. The LotuTec coating protects the lenses from dust and water. Rain just slides right off the exposed glass.

A large center focusing knob is easily accessible in all kinds of weather. The twist-up eyecups feature is a comfort for eyeglass and sunglass wearers and the dioptric adjustment ring allows for individual eye differences. The close focus of an up-front 6.6'/2m means being able to catch the detail in that fluttery butterfly's wing before it disappears into thin air.

Apparent angle of view: 66°
High-density (HD) lens system provides clear and neutral colors
Large focusing wheel and twist-up eyecups add user-friendly functionality
Nitrogen purged for fog and waterproof protection to 400mbar or 13' / 4m
Durable aluminum construction and a compact 6.1" size contribute to its light 1.6 lb weight
Functional temperature range of -22 to 140°F/-30 to 60°C
Multi-layer coating provides more than 90% light transmission for good twilight performance
Schmidt-Pechan roof prisms work as an image-erecting system and allow for a more compact housing architecture
LotuTec protective coating furnishes a clearer view in any weather and makes the optics easier to clean; water just beads up and rolls off the lenses

We just received our Zeiss 10x42 Conquest HD Binoculars and I am very impressed with the amazing clarity and the amount of light transmission through the lenses. It is well constructed and easy to set-up and use.

Improved my birding

I took these binoculars on a 2 week birding tour in the Mexican jungle. The HD component was fantastic especially since I was always looking at birds among bushes and leaves. The birds stood out so much better, it really improved my ability to see the birds more clearly.

Birding Binos

These binoculars literally took my birding to a new level. I previously used the Nikon Monarchs but these Nikons present images that are much crisper and cleaner. They make identifying birds easier for me Good luck! Happy Birding!

Very high quality, very long lasting kind of optic

The cost at about a thousand dollars makes this a somewhat big (daunting) purchase. I bought mine for birding to use in conjunction with the the spotting scope I bought, also for use with birding and nature observation (deer, small game etc). These bins have a very crisp and color rich image and a good deal of light that gets collected. I had a strong sense of wow when looking through these binoculars and I get breathtaking views of the wild birds that often visit the back edge of the property where I have some bird feeders setup. 10x magnification is enough for me and the tendency to go with the more is better approach in magnification choice doesn't always result in a better experience. I have read and now experienced how and 8 or 10x bin gives a nice blend of proximity to the subject, beautiful true to life color and excellent light collection. They feel heavy which does not bother me and they come with accessories to ensure you can carry them securely and perhaps give your arms a rest. This weightiness conveys a very high level of quality in terms of materials, build quality and design you would expect from optics made in Germany. The main focus wheel clearly shows made in Germany and that is one reason I went with this item. These bins are the kind that you buy and use for many many years or perhaps the last pair you will ever buy. The case, cleaning cloth and rubberized objective lens covers and eyepiece covers are a nice touch as are the padded neck strap and harness strap which are included. There is a warranty card that I think is important to fill out and doing so gets your bins registered for things like the warranty and perhaps proving ownership if they are lost or stolen or need repair. Easily adjustable to your particular size face and distance between your eyes and the eye relief nobs feel solid as you give your eyelashes room to flutter. I think most people would be just about as happy with less expensive options but the build quality, high-end optics and impressive colors make this pair of bins perhaps your last and many years of enjoyment.

Very happy

I really wanted a nice pair of binoculars to replace a lost pair of Swarovski that I loved. I looked at Leica, Zeiss, and Swarovski. I wanted to keep it around $1000 so narrowed down to Leica and Zeiss for 10 X 42. I ultimately went with the Zeiss because they were actually made in Germany (not Poland, Portugal, or Asia). When I received them I was immediately impressed with the quality and finish, they really seem like high end binoculars. The performance is excellent, I was surprised at how clear and crisp the vision is. I had read a few negative comments about the dust cover being loose and I can see what is meant but it doesn’t bother me at all. I can’t tell you how happy I am. I’m a huge Leica fan but I highly recommend these

Nice optics, poor quality control

The first two pairs of these we bought had problems and we exchanged them immediately. The third pair lasted about 3 months and then the left eyecup jammed so it's no longer possible to extend or retract it. I like the optical performance but given the high price, I'm not happy with Zeiss design, manufacturing, and quality control.

Quality- good balance- crisp

Shipped in a timely manner, very well packaged, etc. optics have a sturdy, solid weight to them, yet balance nicely in one hand while viewing. The storage case is nice enough and with a durable, pre shaped fabric. The image is crisp, both adjustable dials have the perfect resistance to them and the eye relief is quickly adapted. I have some experience with zeiss scopes for hunting, but this is my first pair of their binoculars. I am comparing them to typical $600 leupold then with hunting in mind. For $1000, I feel like they perform and justify the cost. For hunting, this is as good as I would ever need and the 42mm is perfect. Anything beyond what these can provide is easily gathered in my scopes. My only gripe, as others have mentioned, are the lens caps; both ends. They are a very flimsy rubber that are meant to set slightly recessed 'into' the lens cavity and then slightly over the viewing caps. You can attach them together, but it is just messy and finicky for my likes/needs. I often have gloves on and these just won't cut it. Easily fixed with aftermarket slide ons, but worth noting. Again, for $1000.... You get zeiss crisp clarity, great adjustement rings and a very well balanced binocular. Worth it. Not a fan of vortex with identical pricing for example... this glass is crisper and more natural from edge to edge without the latest greatest coating and what not.

I'm enjoying the excellent optical quality and ease of use after much frustration with a pair of pricier Swarovski binoculars.

Would these be good for birding? Are they too heavy?
Asked by: Tammy
I use these for birding and I'm quite happy with them. Weight is subjective, but as a 50 year old woman with some shoulder issues, these are comfortable for me to use and carry all day. I never hesitate to take them on any walk. FWIW, I use the included strap and carry them crossbody.
