The straight-through viewing ProStaff 5 20-60x82 Spotting Scope Kit from Nikon is a variable-magnification scope packaged with an adjustable tripod and other accessories needed to help you start making observations right out of the box. This scope features an integrated sliding sunshade that reduces glare and visual artifacts by blocking stray light from entering the field of view. The internal surface of the optical channel is textured to help minimize reflections and light loss that can diminish image brightness. Multi-coated optics and the 82mm objective lens help transmit a detailed and contrast-rich image. The scope's weather-sealed housing, included complement of accessories, and 20-60x zoom eyepiece make the ProStaff 5 Spotting Scope Kit ready for almost any long-range observing adventure.

ProStaff 5 20-60x82 Spotting Scope Kit (Straight Viewing) is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Kit is a mixed bag... I bought this kit from B&H a few months ago and use it daily at our seafront home to view many things of interest from right on our property, ships on the water and to over 100 miles to the snow-capped mountains, visible from our living room. The scope itself is great for this purpose. The view is sharp and contrasty, but there is some light fall-off when moving the eyepiece from about 40x, up to 60x. At this price, it remains a great value. The other major part of this kit is the included Nikon tripod, which I find to be a huge disappointment for the following two reasons. 1) The tripod head binds so much that it rotates the center column, rather than spinning on its own pan axis, making tracking movements very hard to pull off smoothly. Making matters worse, since the center column rotates, it also drops in elevation with each pan action, forcing the viewer to constantly loosen the center column and raise it, again and again. The tilt action binds as well but not enough to limit movement. 2) The upper tripod leg clamps are not tight enough to allow them to lock in the extension of the legs and there is no adjustment to tighten the tension applied. Since I assumed this would be a solid kit, I went for it and now I've removed the head from the Nikon tripod and paid to replace it with a Manfrotto head. I assume that the plastic leg clamps will get worse in short order and I'll be forced to replace the legs at that time too. So much for the kit. It's great having this bright and crisp scope at home but as I've illustrated, the kit is a mixed bag. 4 Stars for the scope and 2 Stars for the tripod.
