The Other Half

Used on my 5Ds body, with a 500mm lens. The body would just be too small to comfortably handle this lens, not to mention the ease of having a vertical shutter release. Not too forget, you'll also double your battery life!

Best Immediate Upgrade for any Canon Camera

When I purchased my first 5Dsr body, I also purchased the Battery Grip on the recommendation of a friend. I have never regretted that advice and, with the recent purchase of a second 5Dsr body, I of course purchased a second battery grip! This really gives a whole additional dimension to working with the 5Dsr and especially for me allows a more secure grip on the camera when switching between landscape and portrait photos in a challenging environment (such as rescue dogs in a shelter).

A Worthwhile Complement

For me, a worthwhile complement to my 5DSR. Nicely balanced; Enhanced stability in landscape and portrait mode with my larger hands. And of course, double the battery life! I would buy again, highly recommended!

Replacement!

This is a replacement for my original grip l purchased back in 2012. The original one shedded its skin after 4 years of use. So, I sent it to Canon for repair. The second skin came off less than a year later. Not worth the $80 to do it again, so I started over with a new one... otherwise the handling improvement, a vertical functions are well worth the price.

2 batteries are better than 1

This keep me from having to change out batteries during a shoot. I charge and replace them every day I'm on a trip. I also keep lots of extra charged batteries with me just in case. The only downside is that it make the camera body heavier. I always work on a tripod, so that's not an issue.

Great grip

I have 3 of these for 5DSr's - (used the same grip on earlier models). I hate having to change batteries in the middle of shooting, so these work out great (as long as I make sure to fully charge the batteries before I go out). Only minor complaint is that I've had them come a little loose from the body a few times - this causes the camera to exhibit strange behavior as it is usually not a complete disconnect. Make sure you tighten the thumb-wheel before you start.

A must have IMO

Over the years I've used 1 series and gripped 5 series bodies. They're very comfortable and fit my hands nicely. When I got my 5DS R so time ago I figured it be used pretty much exclusively on a tripod. Yeah...no. LOL I tried using it handheld without a grip but it just felt tiny & awkward. So I figured I had better get one of these before Canon decides to stop making them. Glad I did, now it feels like my other bodies. Replaced the RRS bottom bracket with a RRS L bracket, and haven't looked back. Now I can use the camera like normal without it feeling fiddly.

Best Grip

I'm not a pro, photography is my hobby but I do like buying original brand items for my gear. Love having double controls and added battery life with the grip holding two batteries. I purchased this grip after buying the 5D Mark III and love it. Previously I had a Canon 1D Mark III with the built in grip and loved that. Was a definite need after getting my new Camera. Love the size it adds to the camera and feel it's more comfortable to use with it. Highly recommended

question

Hi, does it work with a 5D Mark II ?
Asked by: Anonymous
No it will not work. I had the same camera and once the MK-III came out, Canon stopped selling the grip for the MK-II (just about every camera model has a different grip). You have two options. Buy the Vello BG-C2.2 Battery Grip for Canon 5D Mark II, which is what I did. It works well. Or get a used Canon grip via Ebay.

When attached firmly to the 5DS R camera does the tightening disk have any play so that it twists loosely a small amount?
Asked by: Kelly
I have zero play when tight. The body is almost always mounted on a 600f/4 mkii which I use handheld (lots of torque on grip); What happens with the grip is it can loosen (very rarely). Wouldn't hurt to put a dab of thread lock on the bolt.

I have a non canon battery grip and the biggest issue is with the connectiobns to my 5d m3 r sometimes having issues. For example starting to shoot and no power, having to tighten the attachment screw or just working it around a little. Very Frustrating. With the Canon brand grip is this an issue or does it consistently keep a god connection between the camera and battery grip? Price is high but I can't continue too use a battery grip that is inconsistent providing a solid connection to my 5d.
Asked by: Peter
The Canon grip should work seamlessly on the 5D3 without any issues.
