The ST-E3-RT makes complex lighting setups simple by facilitating radio-controlled, two-way wireless transmission up to 98.4' away, among up to five groups or fifteen individual Speedlites. It has controls similar to the Speedlite 600EX-RT, including multiple flash metering options, and a variety of flash modes. Compact design with highly reliable construction combined with a clearly laid-out information panel and buttons with back lighting make this an indispensible tool for advanced professional flash photography. The ST-E3-RT represents the next generation in wireless flash systems.

Newly-designed wireless system uses 2-way radio wave communication for enhanced communication among master and slave units. Achieves a transmission distance of up to 98.4' (30 m), all at a 360 degree angle.

This Canon transmitter came with a manual and has worked well with my Canon 600RT II speed lights. I did have some difficulty with syncing due to Wi-Fi interference, but it worked at my recent outdoor photo session.

You can read the tech info from Canon and there are numerous YouTubes on how to use this device. I have 3 Canon RF flashes (a 600 and 2 430s) which I always use in RF mode with a long! cord from the camera to the 600. It works great but while the cord was cheap, it's also a pain in the ... This controller puts full control right on my camera and NO CORD! It works 100%. P.S. I decided not to wait for the new version because the improvements do nothing for me.

I had tried an optical transmitter from another manufacturer which never worked to my satisfaction. This Canon RF transmitter is amazing. So far, I have used it to control 3 speedlites with no problems. I can easily control the intensity of each speedlite separately. Even better, it was easy to learn to use.

Links with 600 and 430 RT Speedlites

I have not had a chance to really use this yet, but I did ensure it linked to my Speedlites. Getting it to link with the 600 RTs was easy since the menus are basically the same. Had trouble with the 430 RT since the menus are different. Called Canon Support and they helped me get it successfully linked. Now I need to find the time to actually use it. Happy so far.

I love this transmitter; it gets the flash off the camera which is better for portraits. I can now fire multiple flashes without the additional weight and bulk added to my camera while using a speedlite as a master flash.

I bought a Speedline Transmitter from Youngnu made in China, it looked like the same shape as Canon. After some months the cover of the battery was broken, now I replaced this Canon Speedline Transmitter. Even this is more expensive many times of Youngnu, but I think the quality of Canon is perfect. I love B&H and all products from Canon: camera, lens, printer...

Will this transmitter work with any of my Pocket Wizard receivers? That would let me use other flashes in addition to the new Canon RT flashes.

Unfortunately, the Canon ST-E3-RT is not compatible with PocketWizards. They work on a different frequency/frequencies. The Canon ST-E3-ET is only compatible with Canon flashes that have RT capability.

As indicated on page 19 of the Canon ST-E3-RT Wireless Transmitter Instruction Manual, High-Speed Sync is only compatible with Canon EOS Digital Cameras released since 2012. High-Speed Sync would not be available on Canon Film or Digital cameras released up to 2011. Those cameras currently include the Canon EOS 1D C, 1D X, 5D Mark III, 6D, 7D, 60Da, T4i, T5i, SL1, and T5.

Shooting with a Canon 5D Mark III will the Canon ...

Shooting with a Canon 5D Mark III will the Canon ST-E3 Speedlight Transmitter support ALL the functions of the new Wescott FJ Strobe (High Speed Sync up to 1/8000s, Freeze Mode, TTL, and Rear Curtain Sync with 6 groups and 16 wireless channels? I've also read about a "sync port" on the strobe. Do you just put the Canon ST-E3 into the hot shoe on the camera for everything to be operational or do you need to do something with the sync port? Finally, I know from an answer tiven in June 2016 that the Canon ST-E3 Speedlight Transmitter worked with the YongNuo YN560III speedlite. Can you give me a current list of non-Canon speedlights (brands and models) that the ST-E3 transmitter currently works with?

The ST-E3 is only capable of 5 groups and 15 channels. It is compatible with the FJ-400. It is not compatible with a YN560III. It is compatible with the YN 600EX and YN 600 EXII.

In a setup with ST-E3-Rt in hot shoe and 600 as slave, would the 600 flash trigger a 580EX to fire as my third flash.

If I read the question correctly, the 600 is not attached to the Camera shoe. The ST-E3-RT is. With this knowledge, the ST-E3-Rt would fire the 600 which in turn would fire the 500. I believe the real question would be if the 600 can receive wireless from the ST-E3-Rt and send optical to the 500 slave. Is this scenario possible?

The ST-E3-RT is only compatible with Canon flashes that have built-in RT. At this time, the 600EX-RT would be the only compatible flash.
