Complete with built-in radio transmission wireless functionality, the Speedlite 600EX-RT sits at the top of Canon's on-camera E-TTL / E-TTL II compatible flash lineup with a powerful guide number of 197' at ISO 100 and 200mm. For added coverage and functionality, the flash's zoom head can reach from 20-200mm, with the option for wide 14mm coverage when the built-in diffusion panel is used. Also, the unit can tilt from -7 to +90° and rotate 180° either left or right for complete bounce capabilities. On the back of the 600EX-RT is a backlit dot-matrix LCD panel that displays the status and allows users to easily access and change settings. Additionally, the flash is durable with a redesigned contact construction and improved dust and water resistant sealing.

Other capabilities of the 600EX-RT include a stroboscopic mode as well as high-speed, first and second curtain sync settings for more control over your image's final look. The flash is powered by 4 AA batteries which provide a recycle time of 0.1-5.5 seconds, though it does have a port for an optional external power pack. It comes with a color filter holder with case, a light orange filter, a dark orange filter, a mini stand, and a Speedlite case.

Very good Speedlite but watch out for other 2.4 ghz devices!

I bought 3 of these Speedlites along with the ST-E3-RT Transmitter. It's a great setup with plenty of power. The menu and display is easy to use with a day or two of using them. I used the radio link in a large room and they worked great. The only issue I found is my home Google WIFI extenders interfere with the signal. The "Link" drops after a few minutes no matter what channel I put the Speedlites on including the Auto setting. I don't think this is really an issue with the Speedlite, but it's something to be aware of if you set up in a place with devices searching for a 2.4ghz band. The Speedlites also have an optical option to fire as a backup.

Never lets you down

This flash coupled with a Canon EOS 7D mrk II Has never let me down with over 9,000 images taken. Just change the batteries as needed and go. I never have to think about the flashes performance. Plain and simple it just works all the time every time.

Integrates well with the camera but is heavier and bigger than the Speedlite 580EXII it is replacing. Features about the same and way more expensive.

Great flash!!

Just had to replace my previous 600EX after 3 years of heavy usage. Solid flash. These replace the 500EX which was a lemon - the neck always became loose causing bad contact reliability. Canon fixed that issue with the 600.

For an amateur, this is great on full auto. Used a wide-angle lens and bounced the flash off the ceiling for group shots. The lighting was excellent.

question

I want to buy the 600EXRT and STE3RT for my canon 60d. I have been reading articles and watching videos and several times it was stated that the feature of the speedlight/radio trans that sends ETTL II info from camera to off-camera 600EXRT actually DOES NOT work with cameras older than 2012. If i bought this and it doesnt send this info then it really wouldnt be any different than my 580EX. So please could you tell me if ALL features including ETTL transmitting is compatible with my 60d? Because I cannot remember if its older than 2012

Unfortunately, your 60D will not work, as it does not feature a compatible 3-pin connection type. For models introduced before the launch of the Speedlite 600EX-RT, such as the EOS 7D, 5D Mark II and so on, youll need to connect the optional Canon Speedlite Release Cable SR-N3. One end of the SR-N3 cord plugs into a single-pin socket on the upper-left side of the 600EX-RT or ST-E3-RT. The opposite end is a standard 3-pin N3 type remote control connector, which plugs into the remote control socket of mid-range and high-end EOS SLR cameras. Please note that all EOS Rebel models to date, as well as the EOS 60D, use a different single-pin remote control socket on the camera body and are not compatible with the SR-N3 cord. Because Canon doesnt (as of mid-2013) market a compatible adapter or connecting cord this means that Remote Release and Linked Shooting are not compatible with these cameras, unfortunately. However, any older EOS SLR model with the 3-pin N3 remote control socket can use the new radio-controlled Speedlite system for either remote firing method, via the optional SR-N3 cord. You can read the full write up at Canon DLC:http://bit.ly/1dkIdrpThere will be a list of compatible models. At present, there is not a single-pin remote cable being made.

question

Does the Canon 600EX-RT come with a battery and charger?
Asked by: Anonymous
The Canon 600EX-RT does not come with batteries or a charger, as this flash runs off of four AA alkaline, lithium, or rechargeable Ni-MH batteries. A great option for this battery type that will last a considerable amount of time are the Panasonic Eneloop Rechargeable AA Ni-MH Batteries with Charger: http://bhpho.to/XhVEXH
