FEISOL CT-3442 Rapid Reviews

Love and Hate

Sometimes I love my Feisol 3442. It's so well made and weighs almost nothing. Sometimes I hate it. The leg angle is too steep. For the life of me, I can't understand why Feisol didn't add a third angle option for the leg adjustments. The option is either too steep or too shallow. Why not something in between?!?

In the beginning, it took me a while to get used to it, but now, I can't phantom going back to something else. It's super light but yet sturdier than my heavier tripods. It's proven its worth and already paid for itself.

Cheap tripod, does not recommend

I purchased the Feisol CT-3442 about a year ago, and have since then used it during a variety of hiking trips for landscape photography. I initially bought it because it was lightweight, seemlingly well built, and relatively cheap compared to similar alternatives. As it turns out, the moto you get what you pay for is accurate with this tripod. The Feisol CT-3442 is cheaply built, and is not suited to anything else than pampered studio usage. I've had to dismantle it and put it back together more times than I care for due to legs blocking or just straight up coming off. While the carbon fiber appears relatively good quality, the tripod's insides are made up of cheap plastic pieces, and any amount of element (e.g., rain, snow) or rough movement will have them break apart. At this point, I'm having to dismantle the tripod every other usage as one of the legs will inevitably block or come off. Needless to say, I do not recommend tris tripod and will be getting a Gitzo or something similar in the future.

I've gone through my share of tripods, and may have met my true love. I've always opted for clamps on the legs because of poor experience with twist locks in the past, but these are fantastic.

Awesome tripod

I've had this for a few years now (no point reviewing after a few days or weeks) and it's been rock solid. It's gone with me all over the place including internationally, submerged in sea water, covered in sand and still performs really well. Keep in mind you'd need to regularly maintain the tripod (clean it out etc.) for it to continue to work at it's best, as you would with every other one out there. It's seriously lightweight, nimble, extends to a great height, folds down really small, simple to use, and does exactly what it needs to do - keeps the camera still (I use Sony a7 range with largest lens being the 70-200mm f/4). For the price you pay, it's certainly worth every cent. Minor downside, but nothing to really complain about, the small caps on the feet are starting to come off as they're only glued to the legs. I've lost one somewhere but the tripod still works well without it.

Great tripod!

I highly recommend this tripod. I have been using less expensive tripods for many years, never totally happy with them being a little wobbly or not able to handle a heavy camera in an extreme angle position. This tripod is rock solid. I got it with the mount and neck extension as well. Easy to assemble, smooth locking mechanisms, decent weight. The mount holds the camera in a solid grip and the ball mount is great. My only criticism is that I wish the tripod, ball mount, and neck extension could be purchased as one package. Just felt like they were sold separately so they could charge more money.

Excellent Tripod

I purchased this tripod prior to a western road trip last year to try and save some weight. I wasn't unhappy with my Induro I used, but it was aluminum and heavy so I looked for a carbon fiber tripod and this Feisol model fit the bill. The build quality is excellent and was rock solid despite me having to place it on some uneven ground getting photos of waterfalls in Yellowstone. Very happy I made the purchase!

Is anyone using this tripod with a Tamron150-600 ...

Is anyone using this tripod with a Tamron150-600 or similar? I'm using this lens on a 5D markll. With the ball head and side kick the whole outfit is about 8.5 pounds; so no weight issues. Do you find the long lens tends to move the tripod in the wind? I currently use a Feisol ct-3371 so I'm familiar with the product.

Unfortunately, we do not have information concerning specific camera/lens combinations used or paired with the FEISOL CT-3442 Tournament Rapid Carbon Fiber Tripod. That being said, the tripod is strong enough to support the 6.29 lbs combined weight of the Canon EOS 5D Mark II DSLR camera and the Tamron 150-600mm f/5-6.3 lens.

I am not familiar with this ballhead but they legs aren't in a locked position when they fold up over the ballhead so I think it won't be a problem.

Is there any space on the base (top or side) to mount a small leveling bubble?

All depends on the size of your ball head. You're better off just getting a ball head with a level or get a small level that fits into your camera's hotshoe
