Olympus V311030SU00B overview

  • 1Description

Positioned as the perfect portrait prime, the silver M.Zuiko Digital 45mm f/1.8 from Olympus is a sleek 90mm equivalent lens for Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras. The short-telephoto focal length pairs with a bright f/1.8 maximum aperture to benefit working in low-light conditions and also offers greater control over depth of field for producing selective focus effects. The optical construction of the lens incorporates two extra-high refractive index elements, which help to reduce distortion and spherical aberrations in order to realize notable sharpness and accurate rendering. Additionally, a Movie & Still Compatible (MSC) autofocus system is employed to deliver quick, quiet, and precise focusing performance to suit both video and photo applications.

Portrait-length prime is designed for Micro Four Thirds mirrorless cameras and provides a 90mm equivalent focal length.
Fast f/1.8 maximum aperture helps to achieve shallow depth of field and selective focusing effects, and also benefits working in difficult lighting conditions.
Two extra-high refractive index elements are used to control distortion and spherical aberration for improved sharpness and clarity.
Movie & Still Compatible (MSC) autofocus system benefits both photo and video applications due to its smooth, quiet, and fast performance.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.

Olympus V311030SU00B reviews

M.Zuiko Digital 45mm f/1.8 Lens (Silver) is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 273.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from As good as the M.Zuiko 25mm F1.8 lens This lens is as good as the 25mm f/1.8 version, which is excellent. Metal lens mount is high quality. Focus ring is smooth an consistent. It produces very sharp images. Focusing is fast with the E-M10 and lengthly exposures with a decent tripod are fantastic. Portraits are equally great. The lens can be used wide open at f1.8 and focus as close as 1.64 ft for decent macro shots. The lens really is as good as you and the camera are. Highly recommended along with the M.Zuiko 25mm f1.8. These are probably the best bang/buck lenses available for the micro 4/3 format. I've never used it for video so can't comment on it's performance in that area.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simply sensational on the OM-D A perfect complement to the OM-D: small, light, extremely sharp, even wide open, and with lovely bokeh. Portraits are its forte, but can be used any time an equivalent field of view of 90mm is needed. At this price, there is nothing in the market place that can compare, in my view. I have this lens as well as the Panasonic 25/1.4, and the Panasonic 20/1.7, and plan on getting both the Oly 12/2 and the Panny 7-14, and these lenses (with various CV manual focus lenses) will cover all my needs. As background, I have sold my Nikon D3 and D3s and all Nikon's top glass and now use a combination of the OM-D, NEX-7, and Ricoh GXR for all my work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Sharpest Lens I've Used Yet I'm in the process of building up an Olympus 4/3 lens set for my OM-D E-M1 I gave myself for Christmas. I currently have the 12-40 2.8, the 60mm macro, the 40-150 4-5.6, and this 45mm 1.8. Now admittedly my 75mm 1.8 isn't here yet, but after some pixel peeping with the glass I have, I've concluded the 45mm 1.8 is the sharpest lens I've personally used to date. And that includes my fleet of pro nikkor lenses as well. This dinky little 45mm lens made me chuckle when I put it on my camera, but man does it deliver the goods. Get this glass. You won't regret it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good, but not awesome Sharp enough, fast enough (f/1.8), compact and portable enough, looks good in silver. Definitely a keeper. But, I find that despite its pretty good bokeh, in practice it's hard to get the shallow depth of field and strikingly blurred-out backgrounds that isolate the subject, that seem to come so easily with a fast 85mm or 90mm full frame lens. I guess that's why I still have, and still use, my OM-4 and my OM Zuiko 85mm f/2.0. There is no getting around physics, I guess. There's nothing at all wrong with this lens; it's excellent in its own right. But it is what it is; don't expect it to do the impossible.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great on DJI X5 camera Worked perfectly right out of box! Did have to balance it but was a piece of cake. Super sharp! Really happy with purchase and of course b&h photo had it packed properly. Thank you!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from my favorite lens I have 3 lenses for my Panasonic GH3 and this is by far my favorite. The bokeh is beautiful, it focuses fast, and the image is super sharp and clear. This lens is a must have for anyone with a MFT cam. The focal length is also great for portraits and in particular video interviews because it allows you to give the subject some extra space with the 45mm, which is actually 90mm. Only negative is it doesn't come with a bag or lens hood, so they kind of cheat you on that (the lens hood they make is also costly, )

Rated 5 out of 5 by from OHHHH SOOO GOOD great great lens. I was shocked on how small it really is in person. But wow what a lens. the size makes it even better. I shoot with the GH3 so I have to keep the shutter fast when shooting hand held but well worth it. I dont know why i kept waiting to purchase this lens. This is a must have for m4/3.The only complaint is it does not come with a lens hood or lens bag like panny lenses. I would rather pay an extra 30 to 50 dollars and get the hood and lens bag with the lens instead of ordering separate.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Another high quality prime for m4/3 I use this lens for portraits and certain types of architectural photography. What makes the lens unique is its focal length and the fact that it is f/1.8. As a result, I have tended so far to use it wide open. It fills an important niche in the focal range for m4/3 and it is worth owning for that reason alone. Quality wise, it is nearly as good as the Panasonic 20/1.7 pancake lens. I have not used it enough to have a list of negatives, but lens flare can be an issue and I also don't know how it is going to hold up over time with heavy use. Autofocus is amazingly fast and the motor is silent. The lens is good value for the money at its current price.
