Formatt Hitech HT105MULTISTOP overview

  • 1Description

Offering greater control over exposures, this 105mm Multistop Variable Neutral Density Filter from Formatt Hitech is a 1-6-stop variable ND that allows you to precisely adjust the amount of neutral density from scene to scene. By rotating the front of the filter, the effective neutral density can be quickly changed from 0.3 to 1.8 to suit working in different lighting conditions.

This filter features an oversized, non-threaded, rotating front filter ring to help avoid vignetting when used with wide-angle lenses. The ring is constructed from lightweight, durable aluminum alloy and the filter itself is made from broadcast-grade Schott optical glass to maintain high image clarity.

Variable neutral density filter allows you to dial in differing amounts of density scene to scene.
0.3 to 1.8 neutral density filter darkens the image, allowing you to photograph with a longer shutter speed or wider aperture than normally required.
Providing a reduction of 1 to 6 stops, this filter allows you to control depth of field and convey movement more easily.
Offers increased flexibility to use specific ISO settings under bright ambient light as well as greater exposure control while using cinema or video cameras within a designated film frame rate.
Schott broadcast-quality optical glass maintains image quality and color rendering.
Extra-large, threadless filter ring reduces the likelihood of vignetting when used with a wide-angle lens. The ring is also constructed from lightweight, durable aluminum alloy.

Formatt Hitech HT105MULTISTOP reviews

105mm Multistop Variable Neutral Density Filter is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works as expected Does it's job as expected easily varying from 1 to 6 stops approx. No front threads is not ideal, but being a 105mm the situation is understandable. I stacked it on a CPol filter and turned it in the direction causing the ND to be at it's brightest setting (which forces the CPol to rotate to the desired position), then focused the lens while the image was bright enough to ensure accurate focus, then carefully turned the ND in the reverse direction to increase the ND strength until the desired level is reached. The CPol can be held to prevent movement, but in my case that wasn't necessary as the ND rotates much easier than the CPol.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Incredible product! We purchased this to use on our Canon Cine primes when doing gimbal work. It was very surprising to learn that our lenses had a 105mm screw filter front so I thought we'd give it a try. Beats balanced the matte box everytime! Boy was I blown away. This is a MUST HAVE if you have these lenses. The speed and efficiency for a small camera package is incredible. Quality is supreme. Very sharp. Two cons: It cannot shoot tinted windows very well. If you are not careful you can turn the ND out of the min/max range and it will vignette; but only when it's out of the min/max range.
