Sony EVI-D90 overview

  • 1Description

The black Sony EVI-D90 PTZ Camera is a standard definition video camera that features a 1/4" EXview HAD CCD sensor, a 28x optical zoom lens, and robotic pan, tilt and zoom. SD video is output via composite or S-Video connections. The camera can memorize up to 6 preset positions and uses standard RS-232C or RS-422 VISCA for remote interface. An IR Remote Commander Unit is also included.

The lens has a fast maximum aperture of f/1.35 - 3.7 and a 3.5 - 98mm focal length, which renders a 35mm equivalent of approximately 40 - 1059.4mm. The minimum object distance is 0.39" at the wide end and 59.05" at the telephoto end. When mounted upside-down, the E-flip function will automatically flip the image, so video will be displayed right-side-up. The camera can pan 170° in either direction and tilt +90/-20°. Sony's Wide D technology helps protect against blocked shadows and blown highlights.

    Sony EVI-D90 reviews

EVI-D90 PTZ Camera (Black) is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great PTZ for the price The SD picture quality is excellent. It is very quick in its response to the joy stick controller; however, it has no widescreen setting only a 4:3.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from THE BEST FOR THE BUCKS This Sony EVI-D90 PTZ CAMERA IS OUR FIRST video camera and it works great. It's picture is really great for a standard definition Camera.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Solid PTZ Cam but Image quality is something out of the 90s I've been using D90 cameras since 2011. A standard PTZ camera with all the typical options. Was ahead of it's time in a not-so-saturated PTZ market. SD was fine for my clients, but image was only so-so in 2011, merely adequate. Now that it's 2018, the image quality is absolutely dismal. The fact that sony hasn't updated the sensor, ever, is unfortunate. Even when manually white balanced, I've found skin tones to be way off, unrealistic, pasty. Contrast is pretty awful, too. There's an option for a wider dynamic range but then the whole image looks dark and there's hardly any contrast at all. I get a better image out of my 1997-purchased Hi-8 consumer camera, and that is not an exaggeration. With live streaming, not everyone needs 720p or 1080p, and 480p is good for internet speed, especially for mobile devices, etc., but good image quality is still expected. With the amazing sensor-technology that is available these days and with how cheap sensors have gotten, Sony should have considered improving this nearly-obsolete product long ago. The only positive thing I can say about this camera is that its been the workhorse of the industry going on 10 years, so yeah, it will be a solid performer for PTZ needs. However, audiences will feel like they've been transported back to 1999 when they view this image.
