ZEISS Distagon T* 15mm f/2.8 ZE Lens for Canon EF
Key Features
  • EF-Mount Lens/Full-Frame Format
  • Aperture Range: f/2.8 to f/22
  • ZEISS T* Anti-Reflective Coating
  • Manual Focus Design
Presenting an ultra-wide field of view, the Canon EF-mount Distagon T* 15mm f/2.8 ZE from ZEISS is a unique prime that is ideal for landscape, interior, and astrophotography applications. Its relatively bright f/2.8 maximum aperture is suitable for working in difficult lighting conditions while shooting handheld. A Distagon optical concept is used, which helps to reduce field curvature and distortion for high overall sharpness and accurate rendering across the frame. Also, a T* anti-reflective coating has been applied to individual elements, and a lens hood is integrated into the lens's design, to control lens flare and ghosting.

What is the diameter of the focus ring? I would like to put a gear ring to use a follow focus, but I need to know the diameter to buy an exact ring.
Asked by: bamk
The diameter of the focus ring on the Milvus 2.8/15 ZE and Classic Distagon 2.8/15 ZE lens is 80mm / 3.15", as shown on the website: https://www.zeiss.com/consumer-products/int/photography/milvus/milvus-2815.html#data or https://www.zeiss.com/content/dam/consumer-products/downloads/historical-products/photography/classic-lenses/en/datasheet-zeiss-classic-distagon-2815.pdf. We recommend the ZEISS Lens Gear Medium for use with this lens: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1248178-REG/zeiss_2174_300_lens_gear_medium.html.

question

Are there any issues with the Metabones Speedbooster (i.e. focusing to infinity)?
Asked by: NICHOLAS
When using adapters to mount lenses on cameras for which the lenses were not designed, the accuracy of focusing at infinity is completely dependent on the qualify of the adapter and not the lens itself.

question

Is this lens the same optically as the new Zeiss 15mm milvus lens?
Asked by: Anonymous
The Milvus version of the Distagon 2.8/15 ZE uses the same optical design, but offers improved anti-reflection coatings, a longer focus rotation, removable lens shade and a weather sealed barrel.

question

Does this lens actually accept filters or is the lens convex?
Asked by: Zach A.
The lens is convex but the lens housing extends beyond the apex of the glass and allows for regular filters (95mm). The filters are harder to find because of their size and a little hard to use polarizers because of the flange but they work.

question

My understanding is this lens can now be special ordered from Zeiss with the integrated lens hood removed. Is that available through B&H?
Asked by: John
You are correct that it can be modified by Zeiss for a (hefty) price. I imagine you first need to purchase the lens and then have it modified by Zeiss. Whether you can have B&H do it for you would be a question for B&H. I would call them and ask.
