Genaray 9 Light Overview

  • 1Description
  • 2AC or DC Operation
  • 3Umbrella Mount
  • 4Optional Remote Dimming

The Spectro LED-9 Light (100-240 VAC/12 VDC) by Genaray is built around a 10-100% dimming fixture with a 60° beam angle. 500 LEDs output an impressive brightness equivalent many times its nominal 35W rating.

In a field dominated by rectangular or square arrays Genaray has made the wise choice of making studio lights circular. Not only does the increased surface area have more wrap-around light characteristics but the shape renders pleasing, natural-looking catchlights in your subject's eyes. And if you're doing portraiture you can soften the Spectro LED-9's output while widening its native 60-degree coverage by slipping the included 3/4 stop diffusion sock over the reflector. Heat is never a concern since the cool-running Spectro LED-9 is barely warm to the touch.

Another way to soften the quality of light is the umbrella socket that's built into the mount. You can use reflective or translucent umbrellas for bounce or shoot-through effects. The socket accepts 7 or 8 mm shafts and the mount has a 65-degree tilting range for perfect placement.

Power is provided by the included multi-voltage power supply/adapter. The inclusion of a cigarette lighter adapter cord also gives you the option of using 12V batteries for convenience or location shooting. You can run the Spectro LED-9 for approximately 300 minutes on an average fully charged battery. Not only are you saving money every time you use the Spectro LED-9 due to its low current draw, but with a 50,000-hour lamp life the Spectro LED-9 is virtually maintenance-free.

Note: Runtime is approximate depending on battery selected

AC or DC Operation

The Spectro LED-9 comes with a 100-240 VAC power source but if you need to shoot in out of the way locations you'll find its DC (battery) capability handy. A cigarette lighter adapter cord is included. Just add your choice of optional 12V battery.

Umbrella Mount

The Spectro LED-9's stand mount has an umbrella socket built into it giving you additional creative options.

Optional Remote Dimming

Squeezing the Spectro LED-9 into tight spaces is no problem. The optional Remote Dimmer gives you the same 10-100% dimming options that you have on the light's control panel but with a 12.8' cable. Operate 1 or several remote equipped Spectro LEDs from remote or central locations. It's also great for controlling a light that's mounted overhead.

question

I have two of these fixtures hanging from a drop down ceiling with Impact scissor clips. I'm looking to use umbrellas with these, but the product photo shows the light/umbrella on a stand with the fixture tilted back. It looks like gravity is keeping the umbrella attached to the light. Will the umbrella stay attached to the fixture if the light is hanging upside down? I've only used soft boxes and I'm new to umbrellas. Thank you for your help.
Asked by: Kelsey
Yes the umbrella will stay in place if the light is pointed downward. There is a tension clip inside the light mounting to hold it in place. I just held my light pointed straight down and the 48 inch umbrella stayed in place.

This light can be powered with a battery such as the Bescor 12V Lithium-Ion Belt-Clip Battery & Charger Kit B&H # BEFP12VATM, using the included cigarette lighter adapter. Please the image below.

question

Which mobile power supply would be ideal for this light if I don't have access to a wall plug?
Asked by: Anonymous
I'm using the Bescor battery with very good results. Heavy, but on my last shoot it delivered a full hour of full-blast light before it gradually started to dim.

question

The specs say 100-240VAC via included Power Supply/Adaptor Does this mean I can plug the light into a standard US power outlet? (the ones with two prongs and sometimes a ground plug)
Asked by: Caleb K.
Yes, I use it in Canada and it's ok with the standard 110v power outlet wich is the same in USA.
