Carson VP-250 overview

  • 1Description

The VP Series VP 12x50 Binocular from Carson offers an up-close 12x magnification with a very large 50mm objective that offers bright light transmission in the low-light situations of an overcast day, or dust and dawn when the game is more likely to come out into the open. This optic pushes the envelope of hand-held binoculars. Waterproof and fogproof, the weather becomes a non-issue while the comfort level is high with a generous 18+mm eye relief for with or without sun or eyeglasses. Optical excellence is achieved with fully multi-coated lenses and phase coated BAK4 roof prisms. Brightness, clarity, crispness, highly contrasted images and color fidelity with a minimum of chromatic aberration is the expected view when glassing with this 12x 50mm binocular from Carson. The large magnification and substantial objective size reorients this binocular into a first choice for astronomical night sky watching as well.

Wide AAoV of 55.1°
O-ring sealed and nitrogen filled, provides waterproof and fogproof protection
BAK4 roof prisms offer a smaller, lighter, sleeker architecture with fewer internal parts
Rubber armoring provides a secure and comfortable grip, as well as added shock-resistance
Phase coating ensures that color wave-lengths have the same focus point reducing chromatic aberration and ensuring color fidelity
Fully multi-coated optics provide multiple layers on all air to glass surfaces for a brighter, higher-contrast image with less eyestrain

Carson VP-250 reviews

VP 12x50 Binocular is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't Overlook These Glasses I am an advanced amateur astronomer and was looking for some bins that were powerful, LIGHT WEIGHT (better control with less shakiness considering 12 X 50's are usually the limit for hand held bins for astronomy), and with very good resolution. I already have a pair of excellent Nikon 10 X 42's I use for birding but they don't quite reach for serious star gazing. You need that 50mm up front to do any really enjoyable star hopping. The Carson VP 250 12 X 50's work very well for all the above. They are just right for grabbing the observation chair, not having to set up my telescope, and going out for some fun viewing. They are lighter than the porro prism 12 X 50's usually recommended for astronomy and because they have phase coated prisms work probably as well. I think it would take an optics expert to discern any significant difference in image quality. They have been everything I was looking for and more. The visual color presented during daytime viewing is stunning. People would do themselves a real favor to give these bins reasonable consideration.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very nice!! I was expecting quality because I recently bought a pair of Carson 10x42's. When I showed them to my son and his kids, he said, Now you know what you can get me for my birthday...only bigger! So. I did. But these really surpised me with how close in they could focus. As big as they are they can get in almost as close as the 10x42's. Carson is obviously a high quality manufacturer and I'm thinking about getting a pair of the 12x50's for myself. Then I'll have one for checking out the birds and one for checking out the neighbors...;-)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty decent performer at this price After tried multiple porro prism 12x50 samples with failed collimation, I decided to give roof prism binoculars a try. The collimation was perfect and the image was pretty good. The sweet spot is decent enough for me to view objects. I noticed that the left and right pieces have very different color tint, I suspect it was intentional by design. The color is good when you use both eyes as we normally do when using binoculars. The depth of field is not too thin so it is relatively forgiving in focusing accuracy comparing to the porro binoculars I tried, and perceived sharpness is good for this reason. Comparing to similarly priced Bushnell Trophy Xtreme, I noticed that shadowed area is slightly darker with Carson that makes it difficult to see the detail and color. This is the only major draw back that lead me to prefer Bushnell. Otherwise, this is a very good buy.
