The SM-44 4.5x SensorMag Magnifier with Dust Blaster from Carson Optical helps you to clean a DSLR's image sensor. The 4.5x-magnification lens is strong enough to help spot small particles and debris. The SensorMag's lens rests inside the camera's bayonet and features adjustable focus to accommodate different size cameras and flange depths. It also swings 45° out of the way to gain access to the sensor. There are two diameter settings to fit various camera bodies. Illumination is via six LEDs that operate on two included CR2032 batteries. The 1.8 ounce magnifier stores in its own zippered pouch.

This magnifier is not suitable for mirrorless cameras and should only be used with DSLRs.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Very Useful Tool! This is a very useful tool that has helped a lot in keeping my DSLR sensors clean. What I've found--through some time-consuming experience--is that you shouldn't own a DSLR unless you're willing to clean the sensor, and you really shouldn't clean the sensor without one of these lighted magnifiers. (It can be done--sometimes successfully, sometimes not--but it's pretty much like throwing darts in the dark.) I don't know how this particular magnifier stacks up against the others, but it does the job for me just fine, and at the price it's a real bargain. Buy one--don't shoot DSLR without it!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works as Advertised The SensorMag works exactly as advertised. It helped me spot the remaining dust spots on my sensor after cleaning with a blower. The plastic feels a little cheap, but I suppose this is on the budget side of sensor loupes. I used it with a Sensorklear Lenspen and being able to angle the loupe was useful. I like that it came with the batteries pre-installed and a nice solid case. The build quality shouldn't be much of a factor since I don't expect the loupe to be exposed to the elements much. I'd definitely buy again.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A little fiddly but fine overall. You can read the usage instructions as a pdf on the manufacturer's site. The base of the loupe is a c-shape (you can see from the product photo) that you rest flat on the body lens mount, with a little retractable lip that you extend depending on your system (Canon v Nikon, for example). I find that it's fiddly. I frequently have trouble getting the loupe to catch the mounting points it's supposed to, and to nest securely in general. I do like the loupe though, and think it's a reasonable value. It includes a nicely padded, zippered pouch (at least, as of this writing) which makes it convenient for travel and storage. I also bought the SensorKlear Loupe Kit to compare, and kept both loupes. The Carson I sometimes use just handheld and it was so inexpensive that I decided just to keep it. If I had to keep only one, it would be the SensorKlear kit.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not for Sony A7R Series Cameras Although this product would be fine on any other camera. The proximity of the Sony A7 R2's sensor to the mount means that you can only focus the loupe by fully extending the screw turn focus ring to the point of it falling out. So one star maybe a little harsh for other cameras but for the Sony it is annoying beyond belief. Illumination is good, sharpness is good (if you lift it a little off the mount) A little plasticky but for the price adequate.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Handy and useful This was my first experience cleaning the sensor on my Canon 5DII. Quite a lot of the dust on the sensor was visible through the Carson SensorMag, which was very helpful since my first step in cleaning was to use a static charged brush to remove the largest particles. I checked the sensor after each pass with the brush until I could not see any more. Then, I mounted a lens, defocused it, set it to f22, and photographed a white sheet of paper with a bright flash. After importing to Lightroom, I cranked up contrast to 100 and that revealed more (small) spots that had to be removed with wet wipes (the Visible Dust swabs). This had to be done 5 times in order to get it acceptably clean, and in between swabbing I used the SensorMag to check for large particles that would appear seemingly from nowhere. The SensorMag saves time, although if you don't have it, you certainly can proceed using only the images that you take of a plain white surface.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A good Magnifier I clean sensors by myself, so, buy this one. It is quite difficult to see dirt onto sensor clearly at first, as you need to learn how to use it. You better look at not sensor center, but the sensor edge, then, turn focusing ring until you could see the sensor edge very clear, then, you will be able to see the dirt.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not bad This was the cheapest loupe available. Considering I have cheaper Mirrorless cameras like NEX 5t, it didn't make sense to send the camera in for cleaning or buy $ loupes. It seemed to identify the dust but the white board, low aperture test is also essential in addition to these loupes. Maybe I haven't used it properly and still need to learn. It does magnify well and came in handy. Considering the cost, it's a good value.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Value! I used this to clean the sensor on my D7100--works great! I'm not sure the $ + versions of this light are any better, but for under $ I will highly recommend this light.
