The SM-44 4.5x SensorMag Magnifier with Dust Blaster from Carson Optical helps you to clean a DSLR's image sensor. The 4.5x-magnification lens is strong enough to help spot small particles and debris. The SensorMag's lens rests inside the camera's bayonet and features adjustable focus to accommodate different size cameras and flange depths. It also swings 45° out of the way to gain access to the sensor. There are two diameter settings to fit various camera bodies. Illumination is via six LEDs that operate on two included CR2032 batteries. The 1.8 ounce magnifier stores in its own zippered pouch.

Carson SM-44 Reviews
It works !
I bought one of these many years ago to use on my DSLR's but never used it and just kept it somewhere. Yesterday on my R5 pictures, I thought I saw a UFO on one corner, and a Balloon on the other corner! I thought to myself, this can't be... they can't be coming together to invade us all at once! So I took lots of pictures at the skies above me, so I can have an idea when they will land on earth, or when they get shot by the US military to protect us... Alas, these two things on my screen never moved, even when I shoot my wall... so I thought I was just being paranoid. I went to my backyard and dug up my plastic barrel where this thing called Carson Sensor Magnifier was stored, it's been there for more than a decade, luckily the batteries did not leak, but the light was now very weak. A new pair of CR2032 batteries made this thing work ! Now I see two dust particles on my R5's sensor, it was difficult at first because I just held it on my hand while the camera was on a tripod. The technique is to move the magnifier towards the sensor, or move back up a little to see a clear picture of the sensor. Now I see a clear picture, I did not see a balloon or a UFO ! Time to order some sensor fluid though as my Dust wand kit's sensor fluid has evaporated!
NOT for SONY E-mount
Dang it! I didn't see previous reviewer who found the same thing. Would be fine for any camera where sensor has a long flange-back distance (that is, sensor is set way back in the body). Sony sensor is close to mount, which means that one can unscrew the focus device ALL the way till it falls out and it's STILL not far enough from the sensor to focus on the E-Mount sensor. So basically you are going to have to freehand hold this floating above the camera body in one hand as you work on the dust with the other hand. Cannot rest it on the body and have it focus. Other bodies? Probably a 5/5. Sony A7? 1/5.
Does its job
I purchased this in conjunction with a sensor cleaning kit so I could do close examination of the sensor. The U interface has 'feet' that ride on the inside diameter of the lens flange on the camera. The fit is a bit large for my Nikon Z 7 II, but at this price point it's worth the compromise.
Really helps see dirt on the sensor
I recommend this as a good product for the money. This works the way it is supposed to and really helps. The focusing mechanism could have a little more range. Great packaging with a nice case. I don't use the ability to swing the lens out of the way as I don't think it gives you enough room to maneuver.
A7C Sensor Cleaning View
There was a problem getting the correct focal length for examining the Sony A7C Sensor. I used a Fotasy T2-FE E mount adapter which I placed the Carson SM-44 on top of. This gives the correct focal length and works great. Make sure everything is very clean before getting near the sensor. The Type 3 Sensor Swabs, Rocket blower and Aeroclipse cleaning solution I ordered at B&H did the job.
Does not fit the mount very well
The light is bright but the mechanism that's supposed to secure the Sensor Mag to the camera mount is a waste.
Nice tool to have.
Very useful tool to have. Nice magnification. Led lights are bright. Nice little hard shell canvas zipper storage case.
Very happy with this device!
This is the best solution I have found on the market for monitoring the condition of a camera sensor. It is very convenient to adjust the distance from the lens to the sensor. There is a uniform illumination of the sensor. All this helps to quickly see any contamination on the sensor. The device helps me diagnose the condition of the sensor before and after cleaning. Great for mirrorless cameras. I recommend!
