Explore the outdoors at night using the compact and weather-resistant Armasight Prime 5x 1st Generation Night Vision Monocular. With a built-in infrared illuminator and a 1st generation intensifier tube, you are able to get detailed images, improved range, and adequate visibility even in complete darkness. The 80 mm f/1.7 lens system offers a tradeoff between a useful 3.2' minimum focus distance, notable magnification, and a wide field of view. To enhance visibility, the optical system also provides an 8 mm exit pupil, which makes the best of your eye's capacity to receive light in dark conditions.

For your convenience, the monocular features an ergonomic body design that allows you to hold it with one hand and adjust its controls, while focusing with the other. Next to the rubberized on-off and infrared-on control buttons, you will find control LED indicators for monitoring the device's status. The eyepiece is outfitted with a diopter adjustment and a twist-up rubber eyecup. The eyecup allows you to get a comfortable fit between the eyepiece and the orbit of your eye. This helps to stabilize viewing and to prevent leakage of the intensifier tube light, which may expose you.

The housing is water resistant and has a rating of IPX4. Its ergonomic design allows for a natural fit in the palm of your hand. All the knobs and adjustment rings are knurled in order to provide a non-slip grip even when wearing gloves. If you need to use an extra illuminator, flashlight, or a camera, you can attach them or other accessories to a Picatinny/Weaver mounting point located on the left side. For long-term observation, improved image stability, or multitasking, this monocular can also be mounted on a tripod via a built-in socket. Also included with the device are a lens tissue, soft carry case, and one CR-123A battery.

    Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outdoor activity My 16 year old son had a problem with spending too much time on the computer every evening so I bought him Prime 5x to get him to spend more time outdoors. And it worked. It's really exciting to go observing night life throught nv monoculars. I liked the image quality and the price.

    Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well, as described This unit is a fine choice at the $$ price at which I purchased it from B&H. Although I can imagine many good and typical uses for this monocular, I bought it from B&H for a very unusual reason; I need to observe an elderly person I am caring for several times a night in near lightless conditions while she is sleeping. She, like many people in their 90's, is both a very light and restless sleeper and requires to have a concentrated oxygen delivering cannula inserted in her nasal passages 24-7. If I approach her close enough to see if the cannula is in place, she often wakes up, no matter how slowly or quietly I approach her, whether necessarily or not. If I stand back about 15-20 feet with the Prime 5x monocular, I can make out whether the cannula has slipped off or not and only bother to disturb her sleep if I need to put the cannula back in place. This saves worrying about it and, most importantly, saves her precious sleep as well, all the while keeping her healthier. I must note however that the scope's resolution, while very good for a type 1 gen device, is barely adequate to read a detail as fine as a small diameter transparent tube that is not necessarily lit at an optimal angle. Depending on the angle of the patient's head to the light, it is sometimes very difficult to make out the presence of the tube - difficult, but still possible. Also, the on/off switch is not very positive in its action, so that it is sometimes difficult to decide, in the dark, whether the unit is actually shut off or not. Overall, I am very satisfied with the Prime 5x and think it is a great instrument for the money.
