Armasight by FLIR NSMSPARK01CCIC1 overview

  • 1Description

Empowered by the Ceramic Optical Ruggedized Engine Technology (CORE), the Spark CORE Multi-Purpose Night Vision Monocular from Armasight is one of a few 1st generation night vision monoculars to boast 60-70 lp/mm resolution with minimal edge-to-edge image distortion. This device combines optimal performance characteristics with versatility: 1x magnification, 30° angular field of view, 0.82' minimum focus distance, and an 8 mm exit pupil. If you need to see farther or pick up more detail, the magnification can be upgraded to 3x with an optional objective lens. The monocular can be used as both a handheld device or it can be mounted on a weapon, helmet, or a headgear. To allow you seeing distant targets at night or to make observations in total darkness, the device features a built-in 50 mW infrared illuminator with a focusing lens.

The water-resistant housing is lightweight and durable. It offers contoured armoring for a slip-free grip and large knurled adjustment rings for easy tuning even when wearing gloves. Additional highlights are two Picatinny style points for attaching additional accessories like flashlights or lasers. The wide winged eyecup minimizes leakage of green light and provides comfortable skin contact. Also included are lens tissue, a soft carry bag, one CR-123A battery, and a tethered objective lens cap.

Spark CORE Multi-Purpose Night Vision Monocular is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 9.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very good for gen1 I used gen1 in the Army back in the day. This unit puts them to shame. Great performance,no grain, no distortion, easy to use and a great assortment of accesories. One piece of advice, it's a little tricky getting optic and reticle adjustments just right. Once you find the sweet spot on the reticle (rear) use good tape and secure it, you won't need to adjust it and if it moves you need to re-tweak it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Best Gen 1 device Great night vision device, excellent quality for a gen 1 monocular, very versatile it can be mounted on a camera, scope, helmet or converted into Goggles for hands free usage, totally worth for camping

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great NV unit Great gen1+ unit. Resolution is very good and very clear. Very happy with this purchase. IR led is just a small 5mm. Does a great job in very low light up to around 10-15'. After that distance you need a much more poqerful IR ledfor longer distances. Best Gen 1 performance I have every seen. Very close to Gen 2

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great quality for the price! One of the first things that caught my eye was the versatility of the unit. I cant afford to buy a unit that fills just one role. It really turned me on that it could be weapons mounted, head/helmet mounted, camera mounted or handheald, and has three dovetail mounts for various mounting and accessorizing. It can also accept 3x and I believe 5x lenses. It also doesnt look like a toy, as do most gen1 devices. Once I got it in hand, two things imeadiatly stood out. The first was the resolution. It has a much clearer and more definitive picture than any gen1 device, and was on par with all the Gen2 units that Ihave used. The second thing was the lack of fish eye effect found in Gen1 night vision. All but the very edges of the picture were crystal clear, and even the edges were pretty good. Gen1 gets more distorted towards the peripheree, leaving only a small portion of the center usable. There were also no artifacts in the picture. Im not sure if I just got a good tube, or if that is just the way this technology works. Even the Mil-spec stuff I have used had artifacts, albiet, most were small. Being that the tube is ceramic as opposed to glass as in gen1, it can handle 500 G's of recoil, compared to 250 G's. I believe Gen2 and 3 tubes are also rated at 500 G's with the exception of some of the filmless tubes, but I'm not 100% certain on that. Another bonus is that the controls are identical to that of the PVS-14's, to which I was already accustomed. Cons: There is only really one con, and I dont think it can be considered a con, given the price range. That is the FOV. It has a 30 degree FOV compared to the 40 degrees of the pvs-14. However, most of the gen1 monoculars had a smaller FOV yet. It is also a little more picky on focus than a Gen3 monocular, meaning that it took a little focus transitioning from an object 100 yards away to an object 25 yards out. Once again, not a big deal considering the price. With the illuminator, I feel like I could reasonably ingage coyotes out to 150+ yards with the laser, and probably further weapons mounted.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product This is my first NVG product. I bought it for security purposes around the exterior of my house. So far I am very happy with it. The built in IR flashlight goes up to five meters vice three stated in the manual. I bought a Nitecore IR light that uses the same CR123 battery. Now I can see up to 200'. Good quality for a gen 1 system. I bought rechargeable batteries and charger to save the cost of expensive replacement batteries.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best 1st gen I ever used I received this unit, great packaging and everything you might need it came with tactical carrying case, batteries and manual. I used this units outside and my ranch at 100 meters it worked great, great price and great quality.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Multipurpose Device Smaller than my cheap Gen1 Handheld. Great for the price. Clear picture with only slight edge distortion. Better than standard Gen 1. Planning on mounting to rifle for rodent removal on property. Mounting options are endless, but expensive.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product The price was right and the Armasight NV Monocular does a very good job without moon and/ or star light. One may add a 3x magnifier. Very happy with product, not a cheap plastic NV monocular.
