Farpoint FP401 overview

  • 1Description

Designed by Russian amateur telescope maker and astronomer Pavel Bahtinov, the Farpoint Bahtinov Focus Mask can be used to quickly and easily focus your telescope for all types of astrophotography with DSLRs or imaging systems. Made of durable ABS plastic, the mask is designed to fit small-aperture telescopes with front end or dew shield diameters from 3.5 to 6.5", and simply fits over the lens for use. It takes the guesswork out of focusing on astronomical objects and ensures tack-sharp stars, planets, and just about any other celestial subject you want to photograph or image.

    Farpoint FP401 reviews

Bahtinov Focus Mask (3.5-6.5" OTA Diameter) is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sharp Stars This focus mask is the greatest. It makes it very easy to focus your camera lens or telescope in the night sky. Just position the mask in front of your telescope or camera lens. (Don't forget to remove it after focusing) It works by defusing a bright star into an "X" with a third spike which move as you change focus. To focus the star just turn the focuser in and out until the one spike intersects the "X" in the center; you then have perfect focus. When using my DSLR camera lens to take photos of the night sky, I focus in live view and zoom in on a bright star, then snap an exposure and zoom in to verify in live view that I have perfect focus.
