Olympus EP-11 reviews

EP-11 Detachable Eyecup is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 50.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Just what I needed I will start with 4 stars as I have only had a short time to use this eyecup. However, initial use indicates that it may solve some of my issues with the E-M5. As I primarily use the camera with a 50mm f2 legacy macro that requires manual focus, I was having problems with outside glare in the viewfinder. The other issue that this eyecup seems to solve is a smeared front lens surface of the viewfinder (the front lens of the EVF is very shallow and in trying to manual focus, it was constantly getting smeared with oil from my eyelashes). The smearing reduced contrast making focus more difficult. The deeper eyecup keeps my eyelashes further from the lens surface.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Better than the stock eyecup, but not by much. The stock eyecup for the EM-5 is notorious for breaking or for slipping off and getting lost. In spite of being careful, I eventually lost mine and chose to replace it with this EP-11 model. This one feels more robust, and snaps into place over the viewfinder with reassuring rigidity. It is quite a bit deeper than the stock one, which took some getting used to. To my dismay though, the rubber portion debonded from the plastic mount after fairly minimal use - I think simply taking the camera out of the bag was all it took. I've given up. I now just use my EM5 with no eyecup at all!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Lemon This thing is a complete lemon. The deep rubber cup is great at blocking out light better than the stock eyepiece but the rubber is hard so you can't use it with glasses without it vignetting out the corners. The worst part is the rubber is barely glued on at only three of the thin edges of the plastic attachment piece and not affixed in any other way. Within the first half-hour of using this at a wedding it got knocked off to never be seen again. Avoid this piece of junk like the plague.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great I'd read a few negative comments on this product, but I have to say I don't agree. The only reason I didn't give five stars was there is some minor flexing of the eyecup needed to fit accessories to the auxiliary port at the base of the flash mount. But it is still easy to fit accessories without removing the eyecup. Other than that, it is certainly easier to get a clear image in high contrast situations, and I can (if I have to) use it while wearing glasses - although not my preferred method.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great...But... Well, let me start off by first saying that these aren't cheap (at least for me they're not) but they work good thus far. I've had mine for about 2 1/2 weeks, they only thing I wish is that they would've used some type of metal or something that would make it more secure. The original broke, just using it regularly, so I'm wary if this will last or break like the first one. I use glasses and it does cut out a little bit when framing, maybe if they made it a little wider but then it may look kind of silly if they did that. So, only time will tell if this thing lasts me.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better view Not wearing glasses, I can really fit my eye in the eyecup and block out the light. However, I do wear glasses and I still find more comfort using the EP-11. There is more room to get close and less light gets in. I highly recommend this product. The original eyecup on the OM E-M5 did not fulfill its purpose. It was all cosmetics only. I had never bought an eyecup before and took me a few minutes to figure out how to put it on. You slide the old one up and out from the bottom.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent! I don't wear glasses, but I figured I'd give this deeper eyecup a shot, mostly because I found a lot of light leaked in when in direct sun with the default eyecup (EP-10 I think?). It does exactly what I hoped it would do, allowing me to push the camera tight against my face to block everything out. At approximately 3x the depth of the default eyecup, the EP-11 is quite a bit larger, which can be a bit of a drawback if your camera bag is a tight fit. It is easily removable, however, so not a problem for me. Another potential drawback is that it can be a bit tricky getting the flash to slide on with the larger eyecup attached, but the material is bendable, so again, not a huge issue. Definitely worth the price!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Much better fit than the original This eye cup fits much better than the original. It fits tightly and won't fall off as the other one constantly did. Not a five star because I have to remove it when I want to use the remote or little flash that comes with it.
