Tiffen 86mm Coarse ND 0.8 Filter (2.6-Stop)
Key Features
  • 0.8 Solid Neutral Density Filter
  • 6x Filter Factor, +2.6 Stop
  • Darkens Entire Image
  • Allows Reduced Shutter Speed
The Tiffen 86mm Coarse ND 0.8 Filter is a solid ND filter with a filter factor of 6x that provides a 2.6-stop exposure reduction. Its 0.8 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters.

question

what is the definition of coarse thread ?
Asked by: Anthony
Coarse thread would refer to a lens filter with a pitch of 1, instead of the standard 0.75 pitch. Most filters between 39-82mm and 127mm use the 0.75 standard pitch. Filters sized 86-112mm and 122mm are typicially 1 pitch, or coarse thread. In any case, you simply need to purchase the filter that is designed for the filter thread size of your lens. The manufacturers concern themselves with making the correct pitch or thread size for the designated filter size.

question

What do they mean by coarse thread , and how is this different from the other Tiffen 3-stop ND filter at the same price?
Asked by: David
Lenses with 86mm filter threads use a coarse thread which is 1.0 pitch. This is different than smaller filter thread sizes (82mm and lower), which use a .75 pitch. Based on the information you provided, we are not able to determine which filter you are referring to. Please provide a link or a Tiffen Mfg #.
