Axis Communications M5013 overview

  • 1Description

The M5013 SVGA PTZ Dome Camera from AXIS Communications uses a 1/4" progressive-scan CMOS sensor for 800 x 600 resolution at 30 fps, and it features a 3.6mm fixed lens for a 45° horizontal field of view. Additionally, the camera can be panned ±180° and tilted 90° at 100° per second, and you can digitally zoom up to 3x within your field of view for focusing on details. White balance, backlight compensation, and exposure control settings allow you to configure your camera based on various environments, and a built-in microphone enables you to remotely listen to and record audio. The camera also comes with built-in analytics, such as motion detection, active tampering alarm, autotracking, and line crossing. When any of these events occur, the camera will send you an email notification or store video recordings of the event to your edge storage.

The camera compresses footage using H.264 and MJPEG formatting, maximizing your bandwidth and storage. Additionally, video can be streamed in multiple individual streams, and frame rates and bandwidth are controllable for further customizing your network. A microSD slot supports on-site recording, however, the camera can also record remotely to a dedicated NAS. The network is secured with a number of safety features, including password protection, IP address filtering, and HTTPs encryption. PoE technology allows you to transfer both data and power over the same Ethernet cable, minimizing the amount of cables needed during installation, and the camera is IP51-rated for protection against dust and dripping water. ONVIF-compliance offers compatibility with a wide range of surveillance devices so that you can connect the camera to an NVR or NAS.

    Axis Communications M5013 reviews

M5013 SVGA PTZ Dome Camera is rated 2.5 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Axis M5013 Installation DiskNotForMacs! I looked extensively to ensure that the camera worked with Macs and found two sources that made it appear that it did work on Macs. Although the DVD is Joliet-formatted, it does not run autorun.exe because the INSTALLATION DISC is for a Windows PC only, it will not open on a Mac. There is no software by Axis that will run on a macintosh OS - per Michael at Axis Customer Services on 4/29/13. Macs can only discover the camera by using Safari/Bonjour. Axis installation disks require a PC to load the software.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from On board memory fails in over 50% The camera works fine, but the on board memory fails. We called support, first they claim we need to get a better class memory (we did), then we shouldn't set up with continuous record (we did). They still failed. expensive cameras to be replacing expensive memory all the time. Axis support is no help. Stay away.
