Formatt Hitech HTAMH Overview

The Hitech 100mm Aluminum Modular Filter Holder is a system that will permit you to use numerous filters depending on your needs in order to create the shot you envision. It comes fully assembled but can be modified to accommodate the filters you require at any moment. It removes the traditional limitation of only three filters per holder by the use of the included plain and spring spacers. Using these included spacers, you can alter the configuration to accept resin or glass filters as thick as 4mm. The spacers can be arranged to accommodate up to three 2mm-thick filters, one 4mm-thick filter, or one 4mm and two 2mm-thick filters.

This holder is constructed from durable, rigid aluminum alloy for increased stability while still remaining lightweight. Additionally, this holder uses the same optional 105mm front accessory rings as the nylon MK4 holder, allowing for greater versatility between both systems.

The included filter spacers permit you to use filters ranging from 4 x 4", 4 x 5.65", and 4 x 6" for the greatest amount of flexibility. You are also able to easily modify the number of filter slots with your holder; once you decide upon the number of desired slots, included brass nuts can be used to secure everything in place. Additional spacers and screws are also available to further expand the system.

One of the slots can be modified to hold a 4mm-thick filter by inserting plain spacers.
Additional spring and plain spacers can be used to further configure the filter holder to accommodate multiple filters.
Comes fully assembled for general use.
Utilizes same optional 105mm front accessory adapter rings as MK4 nylon holder for system compatibility.

does as designed

Too little for the price

Purchased this holder as part of the Colby Brown Landscape Filter Kit (100mm Premier for 77mm thread). The four (4) screws holding the three (3) individual filters are a big problem. The nuts unthread very easilyto the point of coming undone on their own, in addition to the screws being a flat-head and spinning in the countersink. Some blue threadlock could resolve this entire problem, but I've been hesitant to do soyet. The 100mm square 6-stop ND filter that comes with the kit is somewhat stiff to slide into the holder. However, the 100mm x 150mm ND graduated filters in the kit are somewhat loose to slidebut haven't fallen out on their own. I'll write this up elsewhere, but be warned that the 77mm lens adapter does NOT work on the AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm /2.8G ED VR II.

Imperfect, but functional

I have both the older and newer version of this holder. The older version was fixed to support only two 1.5mm thick filters. This newer version supports three 1.5mm filters, and you can add a spacer to switch one of those slots to 4mm. One thing I dislike about the new design is that the third slot was added closer to the lens mount so that the filter rests right up against the lens mount. I use resin filters which are easily scratched, so I don't like that they scrape up against the lens mount when I insert them. I avoid using this closest slot whenever I can. Other than that, the system works reasonably well, especially for the price.

Very sturdy, easy to use, but heavy

Great product, I'm very hapy with it. Naturally, going with the aluminium over plastic, the holder is heavier to carry around. Several reviews (and one reviewer on this site) complain about the holding screw to be too short, making it difficult to hold the holder onto the adapter. Hitech must have listened because my holder came with a long screw.

Nice Build

Love It!

This is a very nice filter holder. It is very heavy duty with a nice painted finish. I am a little worried about the finish rubbing off or scratching. After a month of heavy use it is great, even dropped it on some rocks. What I love about it is it accepts 4mm thick, 101mm wide Tiffen Filters. What I dislike about it is that when you go from portrait to landscape you have to take the holder off to turn it. Unlike the other review here, I have had no problem at all with the holder falling off. The screw holds it very firmly. One other thing I would like to mention is that when I use this holder with a regular (not wideangle) 77mm adapter I get NO vignetting at 12mm with Nikon 12-24mm f/4 lens. However if I add my Nikon 77mm Polarizing Filter before the filter holder I get vignetting at 15mm.

Well built metal holder that accommodates 101 mm (4 in) filters. Filter holders are plastic.

A+ i would buy again.

Comes with extra screws and nuts to take off the extra slots and make it thinner. And I did.

I have a lee holder with adapter rings. Has anyone used the formatt hitech holder with the lee rings?
Asked by: scott b.
It is our understanding that while the holders of either manufacturer will take the other's filters, the adapters will not take the other's holders.
