question

question

I'd like to shoot 30-45 min. interviews with this camera. Is it going to be a hassle to edit my interviews considering this camera uses the MJPEG codec? Or do the clips go together easily in, say, AdobePremiere?
Asked by: Brandon B.
Just note that You will need a 256gb CF card to get that amount of time recorded. I confirm the sandisk 256gb CF card works. Total record time is around 1 hour and 4min. Also note that the cameras temperature warnings come on around 45-50 min shooting 4k.

question

video recording duration?
Asked by: Anonymous
Shooting to a 256gb CF card you can get 1 hour and 4min. Sandisk cards work. Just note that the temperature warming comes on around 50min into shooting 4k. That's in a 72 degree room.

question

is it possible to record video onto two memory cards simultaneously for backup?
Asked by: Eduard V.
Unfortunately, you cannot record to two memory cards simultaneously nor can you do relay recording from one card to the other. You can do only one card at a time.

question

Is there any aliasing or moire with this camera?
Asked by: Paul
When introduced, it was the first compact 4K cinema camera, one that was rugged and totally reliable. To that end, Canon choose a simple robust codec to go along with it. That being said, there is some moir and rolling shutter with this camera.

question

Has anyone used this with an external recorder? If so, how much record time did you get with an SSD? (And which size SSD?)
Asked by: Paul
The 1D C was meant to record 4K internally only. You can use an external recorder to record HD if you wish. As always, record time depends not only on format, and media size but the codec/bit rate and FPS. So if you shoot HD 1080 at 24FPS recorded in ProRes to a 1 TB card, you will get 991.9 minutes of recording. The 1D C records 500 Mb/s Motion JPEG 4K video, as an 8-bit 4:2:2 signal to its dual CF memory card slots at 24 fps. That adds up to 5GB per minute or about 25 minutes on a 128GB CF card.

When shooting in RAW and post processing you can sometimes recover blown out highlight details. This is on a case by case basis really.

question

How long can you record on an external recorder?
Asked by: Paul
This will be dependent on the recorder and media you use, the camera does not have a time limit on the HDMI output.
