Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 28mm f/1.8G Overview

A flexible wide-angle prime, the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 28mm f/1.8G mixes a comfortable, broad field of view with a relatively compact design. A bright f/1.8 maximum aperture excels in difficult light conditions and also affords control over depth of field for isolating subjects. The optical design includes a pair of aspherical elements, which help to suppress distortion and spherical aberrations in order to realize high sharpness, even illumination, and accurate rendering. Also benefitting image quality, both a Nano Crystal Coat and a Super Integrated Coating have been applied to control flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy. Additionally, complementing the imaging capabilities, a Silent Wave Motor affords fast and precise autofocus performance, along with full-time manual focus override, to benefit both stills and video applications.

Wide-angle 28mm lens is designed for FX-format F-mount cameras, however can also be used with DX models where it provides a 42mm equivalent focal length.
Bright f/1.8 maximum aperture benefits working in low-light conditions and also affords control over depth of field for working with selective focus techniques.
Two aspherical elements are used to reduce spherical aberrations and distortion in order to realize sharp imagery with accurate rendering.
Both a Nano Crystal Coat and a Super Integrated Coating have been applied to individual elements to suppress internal reflections, flare, and ghosting for improved contrast and color accuracy when working in strong lighting conditions.
Silent Wave Motor affords quick, quiet, and precise autofocus performance along with full-time manual focus override. A Rear Focusing System is also used, where only the rear lens group is moved during focusing, to maintain the overall length of the lens during use and to promote faster focusing speeds.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm promotes a pleasing out of focus quality that benefits the use of shallow depth of field and selective focus techniques.

Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 28mm f/1.8G Reviews

Great lens

I traded in a 35mm f/1.8 Nikkor G for this lens. It gives the greater angle I want. The 35 was too much like a 50. This lens is very sharp. With a D810 it gives more detail than I can use. It has a good feel, focus is nice. It’s physically more substantial than the 35.

Second one

Bought one 5 years ago, gave that one to my daughter and got a new one for myself. I really like this lens, and it pairs perfectly with my 58mm f/1.4 on my D750. Zero complaints. The lens works great for me.

Sharp, bright, contrasty, beautiful.

On my D850 I get stunning images, even if it’s an accidental shot of my shoe, OK? Same focal length as iPhone, so it’s very familiar and fun to work with.

Not as good as expected

I'm not sure if this lens is a genuine one or a refurbished one. Look like new. When I received it, there even don't have a receipt in the package. Even the warrant sheet in the box, the very small font denoted that I need the receipt to let this warrant be available. I shoot couple of the picture with this lens, the picture quality is OK but the focus ring is SO... loose, a little bit figure tip touch will make the ring turn.

I recommend this lens whole heartedly

If you are thinking to buy or not this lens, I would say go for it. This 28mm lens is unbelievable sharp, fast and lightweight. Fits PERFECTLY on my D700 and D750. First I wanted to go for 24mm but for what I do 28mm is wide enough. Very happy whith it.

NIKKOR OEM FTW!!!

There simply is no replacing glass that is made by the same manufacturer as the body it’s mated to! Even with the rise of multiple 3rd party competitors, NIKKOR is still top tier! I have replaced the 35mm focal range with this 28mm lens...now I don’t feel so cramped when shooting street photography and general shots.

Fantastic lens!

Amazingly sharp wide open. At f/2.8, performance is in par with its older brother Nikkor 28mm f/1.4. The lens shows very little distortion, images are contrasty and CA free. Great value for the money! Highly recommended.

how does this lens play with the D3500?

how does this lens play with the D3500?
Asked by: Tom
Very well...keep in mind that since the D3500 is an APS-C sensor, your focal range will be 42mm instead of the 28mm you would get on a full frame Nikon body...that being said, 42mm is super close to what we Humans see (43mm) so it’s a fantastic sweet spot for all kinds of shooting scenarios!

question

WILL THE NIKON SAVINGS APPLY STILL THOU THE LENS IS OUT OF STOCK?
Asked by: Tom
As long as you placed the order for the lens before the instant savings expires, you would still receive the savings even if the lens ships after the offer is over.

I have the 50mm 1.8 and I dont know if getting this one it could be a little bit non-sense, since I read they are pretty similar?¿¿? Differences between them ? Thanks
Asked by: Marta
I'm not sure if you have full frame camera or not but there is a big difference between the 50 & 28. Get the 28mm if you want a more wide angle lens.
