Opteka GLD-400 overview

  • 1Description

The Opteka GLD-400 47" Camera Slider is among the most affordable sliders available and like even the highest-end ones can be used on its feet or mounted on a tripod to provide you with straight-line tracking shots. It stands two inches off the ground when on its feet, and can be positioned evenly or slanted when mounted. Either way you use it, you'll add professional-looking movement to your scenes. Constructed of heavy-duty anodized aluminum, the slider supports camera rigs of up to 10 lbs.

The camera platform glides smoothly along 47 inches of self-lubricating rails. A knob on the side of the platform lets you loosen or tighten (or lock) the glide. A spirit level helps monitor how even your shot is by indicating its horizontal or vertical alignment.

The camera platform features a 1/4" screw for attaching a camera or camera head. A 1/4" to 3/8" adapter comes included to convert the 1/4" screw into a 3/8" screw. And multiple 1/4" and 3/8" screw-holes are positioned along the length of the slider for mounting onto a tripod or other device.

47" Glide Along Self-Lubricating Rails

  • Built out of heavy-duty aluminum / supports camcorder and DSLR rigs up to 10 lbs
  • A knob loosens, tightens, or locks the slide / a spirit level displays how even your shot is

    Opteka GLD-400 reviews

    GLD-400 47" Camera Slider is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 27.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for the price but... This is a really great product for the price. It was a breeze to set up with my tripod(s) and works really well with my 7D. However, it's a bit too light and while it says it's self-lubricating, don't belief that for a second. Make sure to have a can of Pledge ready. I also wouldn't recommend it for any cameras bigger than a DSLR, although at that point you're better off with a more expensive model. Finally, small point, but I found the packaging shoddy and the insturctions basically useless. Granted, it's assembly and use are pretty self-explanatory but since it's an entry level product, I could imagine a true novice becoming frustrated.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Really smooth shots! I find this slider pretty cool! If you mount it on two light stands you will get really steady tracking and dolly shots. Ohterwise you can just leave it on the floor and you will get awesome shots too! I find this slider a little bit hard to carry around, but its simpler than setting up dolly rails and stuff. Trust me, itll take you up to 3 minutes to set it up. Im using a pan/tilt head from a Manfrotto tripod, so now I can pan or tilt while tracking.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from great price, ok slider this lightweight slider is a must have tool for creating professional looking videos. its also a great price (139.95). some problems: You have to remove one of the legs to remove the carriage. Didn't come with an allen key for the 3/8 mounting screw. The carriage wiggles a little on the track so unless you have a steady hand this may not be the best quality slider for you.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not bad. Good, inexpensive DSLR slider. I got a lot of good shots with this slider. If you don't have a rod system, it's best to stick to prime lenses because zoom lenses throw off the center of gravity for the camera and render the slider useless since there is only a center-mount option on the slider platform. I used it with my T2i and a heavy 2.8 17-55mm zoom and had to rig it so it sat further back and properly balanced. After that, worked like a charm. All in all, good product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for the price! I purchased this slider along with a Tilt & Pan video Head, for use in my productions (mainly weddings) to enhance my camera movement. I use a Canon 60D which is quite light. I was looking to make a DIY slider but the price was around the same as the parts i needed to make my own decent slider. The first thing to note is if you are expecting a high-end pro slider you will be dissapointed. This is the cheapest 47 slider I could find and for the price, I think it is well worth it.I love that it is fairly compact and can be used even in a fairly quiet ceremony and without attracting much attention. It looks nice and is finished quite well. It fits well on tripods with 1/4 & 3/8 threads in the center and on either end. There is a slight audable 'noise' emmited from the dry bushes that would be evident in your footage audio but for me that is not a problem because I don't use the audio from these types of shots anyway. Again it is not loud enough to attract much attention.I do find that there is some 'play' in the slider carrage, so if you are wanting to use a head with this slider that would make 'tilting while sliding difficult. That doesn't effect the sliding movement itself or 'panning' while sliding.I feel that the rubber pads on the 'feet' of the track are a complete wast of time as they started coming off the first day I used it. I will have to make a plan to add better grip for use on the ground. To conclude; this is a fairly good buy concidering the price. I would probably like to get a higher-end slider when I can afford it.This was shipped in only a few days (to South Africa).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for the price! The only reason I'm not giving this 5 stars is that there is a slight metal-on-metal grinding sound that is subtle but potentially loud enough for mics to pick up while filming. Otherwise, it's sturdy and smooth for my DSLR filming and I use it a ton when filming b-roll footage.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A Great Option This slider is well-made. The traction is smooth and adjustable. For the price comparing all the sliders out there, at 47 inches, you can't go wrong with this.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works Well I just used this slider for a wedding shot on the weekend and I could not find anything I did not like with with. It worked well and there were no issues.
