juicedLink RM333 overview

  • 1Description

The JuicedLink RM333 Riggy Micro Low-Noise Preamp is a straightforward, miniature, and flexible microphone preamplifier for use with DSLR cameras that are rich in audio features, such as the Nikon D800 and Canon 5DMKIII. Cameras such as the D800 and 5DMKIII feature headphone outputs for confident and direct audio monitoring, AGC disable and onboard metering, allowing JuicedLink to design a more compact and straightforward preamp in the RM333.

There are 3 built-in XLR inputs and a single 1/8" (3.5mm) stereo output, input gain control, 48V and 12V phantom power. The RM333 is capable of alkaline or LiPolymer battery operation and its small, lightweight enclosure allows for flexible mounting and room for accessories. Simultaneously "rig" optional accessories onto the top and side of the RM333 Riggy Micro for flexible mounting options unheard of from a preamplifier this small.

Three XLR input low-noise preamp, amplified mic level output (3.5 mm stereo mini jack)
Small and light design with flexible mounting options (patent pending)
Mounts to bottom of cameras without obstructing the camera's battery compartment
Optional accessory bracket allows mounting of numerous other components, such as microphones, wireless receivers, etc.
Mounts to camera hot-shoe (with 1/4-20 adapter)
Optional accessory cold shoe allows mounting of 2 other components, such as microphones, wireless receivers, etc.
Sips Battery Power
- 12hr battery life (no phantom, all 3 XLR inputs active, Alkaline battery)
- > 20hr battery life (no phantom, all 3 XLR inputs active, LiPoly battery)
- > 20hr battery life (no phantom, 1 XLR input active, Alkaline battery)
- Switchable between Alkaline and LiPoly battery use (patent pending)
- Selective power down mode to turn off portions of the preamp not being used (patent pending)
48V phantom power, and power saving 12V phantom mode
Camera Overload Protection
- Achieved via audio bracketing (patent pending) (left channel duplicated on the right channel at 16dB lower, so if the camera overloads on the main signal, you have a backup at a safe lower level)
- No noise or distortion created by limiters, and consumes no battery power.

    juicedLink RM333 reviews

RM333 Riggy Micro Low-Noise Preamp is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 15.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Documentary game changer Looks beautiful. Works flawlessly. Company support is BEST in the business. Don't even buy the Made in China Zoom. My H4n has been in New York in a warehouse for two months being repaired. (hope they keep it) The RM333 hooks on top of the Canon 5dM3 and makes phantom power for my Sennheiser 416. The sound is perfect. The 9V battery thing is totally acceptable. To plug in the machine it would have to go through UL testing and a bunch of politicskeep it simple. I love the black finish and orange paint job. I hope they never change a thing. It reminds me of all the NON-made in China stuff I own: clean, strong, simple.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Used on Nikon D800 and works great I used this with a Nikon D800 and had a Sennheiser wireless mic on left channel and a Rode video mic on the right channel as a camera mic. The RM333 allowed me to make audio adjustments on the fly easily. Just note that the Nikon D800 has a bug when a monitor is connected to it's HDMI port that the audio level meters disappear when you hit record - nothing to do with the RM333 though.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Clean sound but ergonomically deficient I use this preamp for run and gun and sitdown interviews with a D800. The sound into the camera is greatly improved using both pro shotgun and other mikes (phantom and not) and with a wireless. Not much noise floor even when cranked up all the way - which seems like the best way in order to keep the D800 internal preamp trimmed down to about 2 or 3. (obviously depends on the mic...) It does the job!Ergonomics: There are multiple ergonomic and build issues that instantly make me wish that Juicedlink had invested in a first class product designer. Lot's of settings controls, but they are all on the bottom and sometimes covered with the tripod plate. The mini 1/8 inchTRSs in/out would benefit from threads (male and female) to lock the TRS so that they don't pull out. (How costly a deal is that? Sennheiser does it on their wireless... And why is this not standard on cameras as well!!) The placement of the TRS 1/8 out to camera is too close to the tiny pots. Why not put it in between the XLRs which would also shield it a bit from being snapped off?! Put more 1/4 screw holes on the box. When I put the Riggy under the D800 it is so off center that instead of sitting flat the camera rests on 3 points including a not so nice sorta sharp corner of the Riggy. Oh, yes, and please find a way to tighten the 1/4 inch mounted stuff without having to resort to an Allen wrench which is eminently losable. And, last, the cold shoes are so wimpy that just putting a shotgun with fur on the side shoe for 2 minutes bent the shoe. While I understand the constraints of small, how about much more robust, Robert?!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from brilliant! I am a professional videographer shooting with a Panasonic GH4. Outdoor tests with the GH4, with our XLR shotgun mic plugged with an XLR to 3.5mm adapter straight into the camera, the audio sounded clean-- because background hiss was masked by all the ambient sound. On our first interview, however, in a quiet room with an XLR lav mic plugged straight into the camera, we could hear all the background hiss. This caused a lot of problems correcting in post. After a lot of research, including an online chat with B&H, we bought the RM333. What a difference! The device is compact and light-- you almost don't even notice it's there when you're shooting. I tried mounting it on the hot shoe but then it blocked my eye from getting to the viewfinder. So, I screwed it into the tripod mount, and the tripod base plat to the underside of the RM333. it works great in that location. All our audio tracks sound perfect now. No problems with overblown peaks, and if we need to boost in post, the tracks are clean with no hiss. It's so light, compact and effective that we leave it on the camera all the time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid Product, Excellent CustomerService This is an excellent Pre amp with an amazing sound. I run my Rode Shotgun mic with the +48 phantom power as well as wireless lav set no problem. this is the perfect tool for anyone who wants clean pro sound. I use this every day with my 7D seamlessly. I definitely recommend this product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Better Audio Straight into your Camera!! I use this with my Nikon D600 and xlr mics. Also, via XLR adapters I can also use my mics with 3.5mm mic outputs and I get really great audio going straight into the camera which eliminates the need to sync audio in post. Lowering the audio in the camera and rasing it in the RM333 Riggy really gets rid of all that terrible hiss and noise. Make sure to but the addition RB200 Riggy Cold Shoe Top Mounting Kit by juicedLink for more mounting options. The only reason for 4 stars is price. It's a great unit but price could be a little lower.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great little pre-amp w/o meters The amount of signal control you have with this little wonder is great! HOWEVER, if you need meters on your pre-amp, this is not the one for you. I'm relying on on-camera meters, so the absence of meters here isn't a deal breaker for me, but I also have the Riggy Assist, which has meters, and I love it. Stock up on 9-volts. This little box eats 'em.
