The DSI RF Systems DS-NSDCDR-D NewsShark HD/SD/SDI Decoder is a part of the portable ENG (Electronic News Gathering) transmission system. This decoder system operates using a single, ruggedized, FCC-approved, embedded, cellular or Wi-Fi modem that complies with the Federal SAR (Speciﬁc Absorption Rate). Since NewsShark is mounted to the back of the camera, its antenna is located at a considerable distance from the camera person’s body, thus reducing any opportunity for dangerous RFR (Radio Frequency Radiation) levels adversely affecting your camera person’s health.
NewsShark’s high-gain antenna achieves 2 important goals; when nearer the cellular tower, NewsShark transmits less power as dictated by the cellular site. However, when further away, the high-gain antenna delivers better performance and reliable cellular capture and transmission under challenging circumstances, even in areas of poor network coverage.
The NewsShark field unit is entirely self-contained with a 3 dB gain antenna and a 6100 mAh battery. A fully-charged battery provides 4 to 5 hours of power, depending on the transmission method. Encoder power can also be supplied by a camera’s external battery, via an industry standard connector, or directly from a 12 to 36 VDC power source, including a vehicle’s lighter connector.
Getting a second or third live feed from events anywhere in the world is easy from a place where Wi-Fi or cellular services are available. Just input an IP address from your NewsShark encoder into your decoder and you are on air. At the studio, a 1 RU NewsShark decoder can receive several NewsShark video transmissions (one at a time) via an Internet connection.
