The Hoya 58mm Variable Neutral Density Filter is a solid variable neutral density filter providing an exposure reduction of about 1.5 to 9 stops. The 0.45 to 2.7 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than would normally be required. The degree of density is easily controlled by rotating the front filter ring, helping you to predetermine the additional exposure length required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily.

This filter is constructed from optical glass to maintain image clarity and is set within a slim profile aluminum ring, which helps to reduce the likelihood of vignetting when used on wide-angle lenses, and does not feature front threads.

58mm Variable Neutral Density Filter is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 20.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for Waterfalls I used it in Iceland when photographing waterfalls among other things in the bright summer light in Iceland. It threads on easily unlike some filters by other companies. I also like how it is clearly marked so I know how much exposure reduction it will have.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super awesome for video I use this with a GH5, to dial in an ISO, a shutter speed (180d), and an aperture, and then use the filter to lock in the correct exposure. It works wonderfully, and I love the extra range that 1.5-9 stops provides over the typical 2-8 stops. The only thing I dislike, the front ring is so tiny that the clip in lens cap from Panasonic doesn't hold. I even bought a Nikon 58mm clip in cap and that doesn't work either. This is the only downside to this filter, instead I go cap-less and keep the lens hood on instead.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Buy Great for increasing your stop speed. I used this on a trip to Iceland to capture waterfall pictures - it worked just as I needed!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Filter This filter is very easy to attach to the lens and works very will. I love that it is a variable density filter because you can change the amount of stops without having to buy several filters. I use it to take long exposure landscape photos.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works as expected, except for one minor details This filter works just as I would expect an ND filter to. The only thing I don't like is that I doesn't accept a normal lens cap. Perhaps there is some rational explanation for this that I'm missing. For me I typically have to shoot quickly and keep moving. It is a bit frustrating to have to remove the filter and reinstall it in a hurry. Other than that it functions just fine.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Quality for the Price I use this for shooting video on a Canon 5d mk ii in bright sunlight. It allows me to keep my f stop low to achieve that dreamy background. The colors are vibrant and brilliant. Very professional outcome. I have used it for outdoor wedding videography and was able to adjust easily as the sun was coming in and out of the clouds.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from For video this is fantastic Using this for video on a GH5. I want to set the shutter speed to 2x the frame rate, i.e. 1/60th second with 30fps video, and 1/125th with 60fps video. I also wanted to lock in the aperture, and lock the ISO at minimum for highest quality. I thus use the V-ND filter to adjust and maintain correct exposure. I chose this filter, versus others, because of the bigger range of transmission (smaller minimum, and bigger maximum ND) and love how it works.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A good buy Works as described. To me a better option than carrying 2-3 neutral density filters. Had good results allowing slower shutter speeds a several waterfall shoots.
