Kino Flo 26S-K55-120 reviews

6.6" 26W Kino KF55 True Match Fluorescent Lamp is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 25.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Use as modeling light I use speedlites inside of softboxes for portrait photography. I use these Kino Flo bulbs inside the soft box to act as a modeling light. It is a technique I learned from a B&H video. I don't find I have to turn off the modeling light when I fire the speedlite flash because the Kino Flo produces a similar temperature light. These bulbs throw off enough light to be helpful as a modeling light assuming your studio is not otherwise well lit. Said differently, it is not a strong modeling light.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from clean light Comparing this to consumer daylight CFLs from the hardware store, these Kino-Flo brand CFLs are awesome. Much cleaner light output, near the light quality of the standard kino-flo fluo tubes. These are definitely fragile, but not any more so than a regular CFL.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful light - perfect match to KINO I bought this bulb for a kicker when shooting with Kino's and it worked great! Perfect color matching to daylight. Buy it if you want good CRI on the skin and good color balance. Wished they also made a 60W model for more light output. NOTE: I dropped mine and it broke. They are as fragile as any fluorescent bulb... should have been more careful. I am on my way to get another one, that's how much I like it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from its exactly what you need people complain kinoflo is expensive and that all the bulbs are made by the same kids in china but kino demands high quality. well sure i guess. point is you get what you pay for. the kinos vs other bulbs have amazing color. and the green spike is so minute that i dont use any correction. they are guaranteed cri greater than 95 and if you need to know any of the photo metrics they are posted on the kinoflo website. something that the off brands do not do is share their products information, the kinos have spectral readouts, fc, fl, and even fall off charts in lux, fc and f stops related to distance, kino gives you everything you need to know. on the subject of flicker free. none of the cfls (that i know of) kinoflo or off brand are flicker free. so it is up to you to know your camera, electricity in your area and the corresponding flicker free frame rates and shutter angles. the flo bulbs remind you on the bulb itself that you need to use flicker free frame rates and shutter angles. once again, people cry about the price but you get what you pay for. want great color without needing gel to correct? want all the photo metrics before you buy? get the kino have the time and tools to deal with green spikes? dont mind muted colors? ok with taking a shot in the dark on photo metrics? then get an off brand. its your choice, for me i want it done right the first time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Professional Quality Light Source but Not Perfect These lights give a very nice light and skin tones are reacting much better than with other pro brands of CFLs I've tried. I'm using these CFLs in a project to convert some old Mole Richardson scoops into a fluorescent source for the power and heat savings. The first con that I see is the low power. It's clearly marked as only 26W but when that sinks in and I saw the output performance, I really wish they had a higher output. I have 7 of these installed in a single fixture and they still aren't putting out the amount of light I was hoping for. They may be better suited as a modeling light or a practical light replacement that a film/video light. The color is nice, but in my initial tests they are a little magenta heavy. Almost like they are over-correcting for the green spike. I don't know if that's possibly from a heat related or voltage related issue or they just run a little magenta. It was easily corrected in camera.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not recommended for stopmotion animation I purchased these Kino Flo bulbs when my regular CFLs (Cameron 5200K, 28W Daylight bulbs) suddenly became unavailable. Though I've heard good things about the Kino Flos, I found I was unable to use these for my stop-motion animation project. Though they are described as flicker-free, they actually have a surprising amount of flicker that shows up in stop-motion footage. Very disappointing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great light These CFL bulbs are much brighter than I expected. I'll have to measure the output to know for sure, but at first blush, I'd say they are as bright as 250 watt incandescent bulbs. The color is apparently well matched to daylight (much bluer than the incandescent bulbs). I don't have a way to readily measure the CRI, but colors seems bright and true under these lights. They are somewhat slow to reach full brightness, so give them a few minutes before you judge.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good modeling light I use these bulbs as a modeling light in my soft boxes that are powered by a speedlite. I learned this technique of attaching a bulb to a homemade socket inside the soft box from a clever B&H video. The modeling light is pretty low power, but in an otherwise dimly lit studio it works well enough. I don't turn the modeling light off when I shoot because the light produced by Kino Flo bulb is close enough to the light produced by my speedlite.
