Archival Methods 01-215 overview

  • 1Description

The white 13.5 x 19.5 x 1.5" Drop-Front Archival Storage Box from Archival Methods protects and stores digital and photographic prints, that either have been matted or matted, inside the 1.5" deep drop-front box. Therefore, the archival box will approximately hold 22 2/2 ply mounted prints. The box is constructed of a heavyweight archival-grade boxboard that has a matte laminate coating, which makes the box resistant to water. Removing the box top reveals a hinged drop-front panel on the front long side; thus, the bottom section of the box allows the contents to be inserted, removed or examined safely.

The corners of the box top have been reinforced with metal corners. The metal clamps have been treated with a black polyester coating with a wax-free polyester finish, which make them anti-corrosive. The clamps give rigidness to the box and strength for stacking on top of each other. The box is PAT passed, which means it's suitable for long-term storage.

Made from fully bleached, high-alpha cellulose pulp. It does not contain any post-consumer waste recycled pulp. Paper is free of metal particles, waxes, plasticizers, residual bleach, and peroxide; sulfur content is less than 0.0008% reducible sulfur.
Metal edge clamps are corrosion-treated with a black polyester coating and a wax-free polyester finish.
Constructed from heavyweight archival-grade boxboard.
Lignin content is measured as per the phloroglucinol test with a Kappa number of 5 or less.
Metallic impurities and iron content will not exceed 150 ppm and copper shall not exceed 6 ppm; no optical brightening agents are used in the pulp.
Paper contains a minimum of 3% calcium carbonate (CaCO3) with a pH range from 8 to 9.5.
Alkaline or neutral sizing is used; no alum rosin or rosin sizing is used.
Color dyes are light-fast and non-bleeding.
Surface of the paper is smooth and free from knots, shives, and abrasive particles.
Board will not degrade and cause harm to the artifacts.
This paper passed the PAT (Photographic Activity Test) ISO 14523 (formerly ANSI IT9.16).

Archival Methods 01-215 reviews

Drop-Front Archival Storage Box (13.5 x 19.5 x 1.5", White) is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 15.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Appears to be sturdy The Drop-Front Archival Storage Box appears to be strong enough to stack. I believe they are acid free so photos should be well protected. I use acid free Archival Tissue Paper between each photo to assure the photos are protected from scratches and other damage. This is the first time I use this product but I'm quite confident that they will do what it is intended to do. The 4 stars is because I haven't used this product before. They appear to be durable but time will tell.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I will buy more! Besides being a photographer, I am also a museum consultant. I have been looking for a box to use for storage of 13 x 19 inch prints. Finally I found them at B&H. They look great and the price is good. Suggest however that you order these by themselves. I ordered them with some frames and they got damaged from the pressure from the weight.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Perfect for the job! I bought this storage box as a way to transfer my prints around for my portfolio during interviews. It's the perfect height to store a good amount of prints in and the metal corners help protect the prints from getting bent. I would recommend this to anyone looking for something to store prints in or transport them for portfolio reviews.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Does the trick A good storage box for the studio. I keep my prints in it and it does the trick. It isn't the sturdiest box, and does not have the most professional look to it, so I primarily keep it in my studio. The only drawback I have noticed is that the edges of the box shed little pieces of black paper into the box that get on the photos.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Box for the price and quality... I just use it for print storage in the studio. I like the black interior and cheap price. I bought four more. Great price point. I wouldn't buy this and expect to carry it around as a print showing/viewing box.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Awesome box I needed this box to safely transport my 13x19 prints to and from classes. This box is very sturdy. My only con that I've found is that the lid and the base of the box are two separate pieces.
