Tele Vue Delos 8mm Eyepiece (1.25")
Key Features
  • 8mm Focal Length
  • 72° Apparent Field of View
  • 1.25" Diameter Barrel
  • Anti-Reflective Multi-Coated Optics
Taking design inspiration from the venerable Ethos line but with a narrower field of view to provide users with a long more comfortable eye relief, the Tele Vue Delos 8mm Eyepiece was designed for easy long-duration lunar and planetary observation. Index-matched anti-reflective multi-coatings applied to the glass lenses were engineered specifically to maximize light transmission, which produces sharp, bright, high-contrast, and color-faithful images across the entire spacious 72° apparent field of view. Its adjustable-height rubber eyecup helps to further enhance contrast by preventing stray light from entering the user's peripheral vision, which can interfere with the image seen through the ocular. The eyepiece is offered with a 1.25" diameter barrel for compatibility with a wide variety of filters and accessories, and is parfocal with Tele Vue Group B eyepieces so no refocusing is required when switching between eyepieces within the group.

Tele Vue Delos Reviews

Wow

There's absolutely no comparison to a standard plossl. The view is so much better. Get this if you have extra play money. The only piece of advice I can give, is to decide whether you want to invest in astrophotography gear or expensive eyepieces like this. You can only see so much with eyepieces. Astrophotography can be rewarding but you are trading your time for awesome processed views. If you're like me, there is not enough time for all my different hobbies. I will stick to eyepieces.

More than enough eye relief for anyone even with thick glasses on. Virtually perfect image across the 72 degree apparent field.

Flawless Eyepiece

I have been observing through telescopes for 47 years and making them for 40 years. I have had everything from .965 to 1.25 and 2 eyepieces. I purchased my first Televue eyepiece in 1991 and now have a wonderful set of Televue Ethos and Delos eyepieces. They are the highest quality eyepieces that I have observed with. Before I purchased the 8mm Delos, I purchased the 4.5mm Delos. For my observing conditions and equipment, it was a bit too much magnification. I will keep it for lunar and planetary observations on those nights when the seeing allows its use. I liked the size (small fist), weight (1 lb), and field of view (72-deg AFOV) so much that I ordered an 8mm Delos. This is just an exceptional medium-to-high power eyepiece...absolutely one of the very best eyepieces that I have ever owned. The price is also very reasonable, compared to an Ethos. As an engineer at Kennedy Space Center, I know the value of nice glass and knowing that I am using Televue and, in my opinion, the finest glass that I can buy, adds to the peace that I have that I am seeing the very best view that my equipment can provide. Highly recommended!

Delos-most comfortable TV eyepiece

Being a long time amateur astronomer and having looked through most all the Panoptics, Naglers, and a few Ethos I can honestly say these are fast becoming my favorite eyepieces. I would highly recommend these.

I was a little concerned about the size/weight for a 1.25 eyepiece at first, but this eyepiece continues to deliver wonderfully sharp and high-contrast views from light-polluted skies through my fast (f/5) Newtonian that keep me smiling. I couldn't afford the Ethos line, but I don't think that I missed out on anything. The eye relief is more comfortable than my Tele Vue Panoptic; this eyepiece is one my favorites for the Moon/planets, and even close-up views of GCs on nights with good seeing. I am also impressed with how well it shows nebulae on Moonless nights. Finding the eye relief sweet spot takes some getting used to, though (too close and your own eyelashes block some of your view). But I've quickly learned how to make the adjustment when switching between this and my other Tele Vue eyepieces. Solid construction, too (it's Tele Vue after all). Even with my fast (f/5) Newtonian, stars are sharp all the way to the edge of the FOV. I have a good quality focuser that can handle the weight, but I suggest making sure that your scope can handle these heavy eyepieces. If you're considering the Ethos line, I don't think the incremental improvement in FOV is worth the additional cost. I am strongly considering adding one or two more Delos eyepieces to my set.
