Samyang 85mm f/1.4 Reviews
Very Good but not perfect
I use it with a Fuji X-T3 and an Olympus E-M5-III. What I like: price, built quality, sharpness even at full aperture What I don't like: all manual, no chip to transmit focal and aperture to the camera, minimum distance of 1 meter, chromatic aberration at f/1.4 in high contrast situations.
Perfect Lens
This is a great lens! Bought it for a shoot I had recently and it was AMAZING.
my favourite lens
I was looking for a little longer lens for night photography. This one was so inexpensive I decided to try it. It's too long for big pano Milky Way shots but for night cityscape, blue hour and day landscape shots it's superb. I found the infinity focus, taped it with gaffers tape and rarely use it for anything else. Very sharp, great color.
Incredible value
This isn't a perfect lens, but it's practically unbeatable for the price. I've had it for over a year now so I have a good idea of what works and what doesn't for me, but the pros definitely outweigh the cons, especially at the value. The elephant in the room is that it is entirely manual, so there will be a bit of a learning curve if you aren't used to that, but Fuji's focus peaking makes focusing a breeze. A lens like this is definitely geared towards portraits, and it does a great job at that. It isn't the sharpest lens in the world, but it's dang good, and it works well with post-sharpening filters. It adds a significant amount of weight to my X-T2, but with a battery grip it balances out quite nicely. It definitely has issues with CA in harsh light, but it's not a dealbreaker by any means. Stopping down to f/2 sharpens the images up quite a bit, but they look quite nice wide open. All of the included images have had some amount of post-processing, but they still represent what this lens is capable of quite well. If you need a fast portrait shooter and don't want to go all the way to the Fuji 90mm f/2, this is your next best bet!
Excellent
I’m very happy with this lens. I use it with my Sony a7s for night photography. It lets in the right amount of light for great night viewing.
awesome
for the price.. can't expect more. 1.4 look amazing
First portrait lens
I've never owned a dedicated portrait lens before. I usually used a wide to telephoto zoom to cover portraits unless using medium format. The lens itself does everything I wanted it to and more. If you're looking for an inexpensive alternative to your brand's 85 you won't go wrong buying this.
