Samyang 35mm f/1.4 Overview

The Nikon F mount Samyang 35mm f/1.4 AS UMC Lens is a prime standard wide-angle lens designed for both full-frame and APS-C sized sensors; when used with an APS-C sensor the 35mm-equivalent focal length is 52.5mm. It is well-suited to working in a variety of situations ranging from landscape to portraiture. Its fast f/1.4 maximum aperture is further beneficial to working in low-light conditions and for greater control over selective focus and shallow depth of field effects.

Two high refractive index elements and one aspherical element have been incorporated into the optical design to minimize chromatic aberrations in order to produce sharper images. A UMC coating has also been applied to lens elements to reduce surface reflections and prevent lens flare and ghosting for improved light transmission and more contrast-rich imagery.

This lens also incorporates an AE microprocessor that enables the camera to electronically confirm focus as well as permit camera-based control over exposure settings.

When used with full-frame image sensors, this lens' wide-angle perspective is well-suited to use in a broad array of conditions. When used with DX-sized sensors, this 52.5mm equivalent standard prime lens provides a similar field of view to normal vision.
Fast f/1.4 maximum aperture benefits working in low-light conditions and provides greater control over focus placement for shallow depth of field applications.
Two high refractive index elements and one aspherical element reduce chromatic aberrations in order to produce greater sharpness and clarity.
UMC coating improves light transmission and suppresses lens flare and ghosting for more contrast-rich, color-neutral images.

How would focusing work with a D3300, would a light come on when it was in focus, or something? Thanks
Asked by: Charles
As the Samyang 35mm f/1.4 AS UMC Lens for Nikon F (AE Chip) has an AE microprocessor that enables the camera to electronically confirm focus as well as permit camera-based control over exposure settings, when focusing the lens manually and looking through the viewfinder, the green focus confirmation LED in the viewfinder will illuminate when the subject on your selected focus point is in focus.

This Version of the Samyang 35mm f/1.4 is designed for Nikon cameras; it would not be compatible with the T3i. For Canon cameras, you would need the version of this lens with the Canon mount.http://bhpho.to/UhdqJE

For 75% stills use and 25% video, would this be the better lens or the T1.5 DS cine lens? Thanks
Asked by: Satya
If it is primarily for photos, this lens would be the better option. If it were more on the video side, at that point I would say the T1.5 would be a better go to option.

question

is this works on Nikon d810 for Astro photography??? SPL for milkyways and landscapes ??
Asked by: Nilamkumar p.
As you own a full-frame camera, yes, the Samyang 35mm f/1.4 AS UMC Lens for Nikon F (AE Chip) may be used on the Nikon D810 DSLR camera to photograph the Milky Way. However, I say that with a caveat. 35mm is normally the shortest wide angle lens that is typically recommended for use when trying to photograph the Milky Way with a full-frame camera for two main reasons: First, it is one of the shortest focal lengths that will still allow you to capture a majority of the Milky Way. Second, with shorter wide angle lenses, you have a shorter amount of time before the rotation of the Earth starts to cause star trails, which can make your image look slightly blurry. It simply depends on what you are trying to capture. The Samyang 24mm f/1.4 ED AS UMC Wide-Angle Lens for Nikon, B&H # SA2414AEN, may allow you to capture more of the landscape and the Milky Way, and allow you to have longer exposure times to capture detail before incurring star trail issues, but it is a personal preference.
