Samyang 35mm f/1.4 Overview

The Nikon F mount Samyang 35mm f/1.4 AS UMC Lens is a prime standard wide-angle lens designed for both full-frame and APS-C sized sensors; when used with an APS-C sensor the 35mm-equivalent focal length is 52.5mm. It is well-suited to working in a variety of situations ranging from landscape to portraiture. Its fast f/1.4 maximum aperture is further beneficial to working in low-light conditions and for greater control over selective focus and shallow depth of field effects.

Two high refractive index elements and one aspherical element have been incorporated into the optical design to minimize chromatic aberrations in order to produce sharper images. A UMC coating has also been applied to lens elements to reduce surface reflections and prevent lens flare and ghosting for improved light transmission and more contrast-rich imagery.

This lens also incorporates an AE microprocessor that enables the camera to electronically confirm focus as well as permit camera-based control over exposure settings.

When used with full-frame image sensors, this lens' wide-angle perspective is well-suited to use in a broad array of conditions. When used with DX-sized sensors, this 52.5mm equivalent standard prime lens provides a similar field of view to normal vision.
Fast f/1.4 maximum aperture benefits working in low-light conditions and provides greater control over focus placement for shallow depth of field applications.

Samyang 35mm f/1.4 Reviews

Great lens after focus adjust

I have had this lens for about at year. In the beginning I was disappionted with sharpness. Then I realizsed that even a manual fouuc lens needs AF-fine tune. After fine tuning it, it is a stunning change. Marvellous sharpness and great bokeh. Great for night-shots too. Yes, it is heavy but is worth it.

Using this on a D800E and getting awesome resolution, contrast and color. Really sharp. I have the DK-17M on the camera to help me focus it, but the focus indicator in the view finder is right on. Today I got a Madagascar lizard with it while testing the lens. It's amazing. This lens is already my favorite wide angle, and it's got the 14-24mm f/2.8 to compete with. Great choice!

Wonderful image but focus confirm is off

I had high hopes that the focus confirm chip would be helpful; as modern slr's are not really equipped for manual focus. I am disappointed, the glass is wonderful, the bokeh is pleasing and in focus images are sharp, but only after fiddling with it. All images using focus confirm are off, just a little, but clearly off. Also, I thought this had an infinity stop but is also a bit off.
