The Alpha SLT-A37 DSLR Camera with 18-55mm Zoom Lens from Sony is an Alpha series camera body that combines a 16.1MP CMOS sensor, Sony's translucent mirror technology, and 2.7" tilt and swivel LCD display - with the Sony 18-55mm zoom lens to get you shooting right out of the box. It's cropped APS size sensor means the focal length of lenses attached to it are magnified by 1.5x, so the 18-55mm lens effectively becomes a 27-82.5mm lens on this camera body.

Thanks to its lightweight design, the A37 can be easier to carry around than traditional DSLR's, but unlike your standard point-and-shoot you still have custom control of your images and camera settings. The A37 uses a 16.1MP Exmor HD APS CMOS sensor, in-camera image stabilization, and Sony's proprietary Translucent Mirror Technology, to provide constant autofocus and image capture, simultaneously, unlike other DSLRs that use a reflex mirror that must flip up in order to capture images.

Using the A37 to capture RAW files will enable you to shoot and edit your images with even more latitude than a mere compressed JPEG. Use this ability to capture detailed photographs that can easily be enlarged, and viewed on your HDTV, computer monitor, digital picture frame, or prints both large and small.

With the Sony A-mount you can put any number of lenses onto the A37 and add the right lens for the situation. Having interchangeable lenses not only benefits your photographic creativity, but also your ability to record Full HD video with different effects and techniques. The high speed AF Full HD Movie mode allows you to record a maximum video resolution of 1920x1080, at either 60i or 24p. With features like Live View, the tilt and swivel 2.7" LCD screen, and manual controls, you can record both photos and videos in a variety of situations. Additionally, the electronic finder does not go dark while recording HD movies, so you can continue to use it when framing or focusing, as well as the added stability of holding the camera to your eye.

No matter which mode you're shooting in: video or still, all your files can be stored on a variety of optional memory cards. The camera's media card slot allows for insertion of Sony's own Memory Stick PRO Duo, Memory PRO-HG Duo, and SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards. Other useful features of the camera include a built-in auto pop-up flash, which is great for grabbing low-light images, or Handheld Twilight and Multi-frame NR shooting modes for quality low-light images without the flash. You can also shoot 3D images for viewing on 3D televisions or monitors as JPEG or MPO files.

18-55mm Zoom Lens Included
The included 18-55mm Alpha A-mount zoom lens uses 8 elements in 7 groups to capture images from wide-angle to normal focal lengths. When attached to cameras, such as this A37, its focal lengths are magnified 1.5x, and it becomes the 35mm equivalent of a 27-82.5mm zoom lens.
16.1MP Resolution Exmor APS HD CMOS sensor
With the 16.1 megapixel resolution of the cropped 23.4 X 15.6mm APS-C sensor, and Sony's Exmor APS HD CMOS technology, the A37 camera achieves high resolution imagery even in low-light conditions, with reduced sensor noise. Conventional image sensors use only a handful of analog-to-digital (A/D) converters, which can slow you down. The Exmor sensor provides more than 4,000 column-parallel A/D converters, and this helps enable continuous shooting at up to 7 frames per second.
Exclusive Translucent Mirror Technology
While conventional DSLRs can focus and meter for a certain subject, and then they can flip their mirror to capture an image, they cannot do both at once. The SLT-A37 utilizes Translucent Mirror Technology that directs light to both the image sensor and the Phase Detection AF sensor simultaneously, so that images are captured instantly, without the delay of a traditional reflex mirror.
2.7" Tilt & Swivel 230K-Dot LCD Display
Tilt it up or down to frame high- and low-angle shots that would otherwise be hit-or-miss. Tilt and swivel under the camera for self-portraits. Or fold it flush to the camera with the LCD exposed for shooting and to keep it protected during travel.
BIONZ Image Processor
The A37's processing engine is a refined version of Sony's BIONZ image processor. Its chroma noise reduction delivers high-resolution, with reduced noise even at ISO 16000 sensitivity. Also enables up to 5.5 fps continuous shooting at full resolution, Sweep Panorama mode and more.
SteadyShot INSIDE stabilization
Image stabilization reduces blur by compensating for camera shake. Typical DSLR systems build image stabilization into selected lenses only. SteadyShot INSIDE image stabilization is built into the camera body itself. You'll reduce blur with every A-mount lens, including macro and wide-aperture standard zoom lenses.
Full HD 1080/60i/24p Video Recording & High Speed AF
Record in your choice of 1080/60i or 24p AVCHD format, or in PC-friendly 1080/30p MP4 format. When most DSLRs shoot video, their Contrast AF is slow and visibly "hunts" for focus. The High Speed AF Full HD Movie retains the same fast, precise Phase Detection you enjoy for still images. It's a decisive advantage for tracking fast-moving subjects and a major benefit of Translucent Mirror Technology.
Extended ISO 16000 sensitivity
Capture clearer low-light pictures without sacrificing detail--made possible by the low-noise Exmor APS HD CMOS image sensor and refined BIONZ image processor.
Live View in LCD or EVF
You can use both the LCD monitor and Electronic Viewfinder for composing shots. Both provide a preview of white balance, focus, depth of field, exposure and 100% framing accuracy, plus other informative on-screen displays.
0.46" SVGA Xtra Fine Electronic Viewfinder
The Tru-finder Electronic Viewfinder (EVF) is super bright, easy to see with 1.1x magnification, ultra-sharp with 1.44 million dots (1.15 effective) and provides 100% frame coverage. Exposure preview and informative overlays make operation easy and precise. The Sony SLT-A37 also enables you to shoot video without the EVF going dark, and the added stability you get from holding the camera up to your eye.
AUTO+ (Advanced Auto) mode
Simplifying Sony intelligent technologies, the camera automatically recognizes the correct scene mode, then quickly shoots and combines up to six shots to produce images with greater clarity, optimum dynamic range, using Auto HDR technology, and lower image noise using 6-shot layering technology.
Auto Portrait Framing
Simply photograph a person and Auto Portrait Framing will save an additional, optimally framed image in portrait or landscape orientation. Combining Face Detection and Super Resolution technologies with rule of thirds, Auto Portrait Framing provides aids you incapturing properly composed full resolution portraits.
Picture Effect mode
There are 11 types (15 variations) of picture effects to choose from: Posterization (Color), Posterization (B/W), Pop Color, Retro Photo, Partial Color (R), Partial Color (G), Partial Color (B), Partial Color (Y), High Contrast Monochrome, Toy Camera, Soft High-key , Soft Focus, HDR Painting, Rich-tone Mono, Miniature. Each is unique, giving you a new and exciting way to make your images and videos stand out.
Multi-frame NR & Auto HDR
Experience incredible low-light shooting without a flash. The camera captures six images in a fraction of a second. Combining the data from all six, it creates a single image with a reduction in noise equivalent to two additional steps of ISO sensitivity. Capturing more color and tonal range than a single exposure can handle. Auto HDR combines the best highlight detail from one shot, the best mid-tones from a second and the best shadow detail from a third for one incredible shot.
3D Sweep Panorama Mode
Capture vast scenic vistas in spectacular 3D--either 3:2 or widescreen 16:9 shots. As you sweep across the scene the camera records separate right-eye and left-eye images that make landscapes come alive on your 3D television. Records in both JPEG and MPO file formats, at up to 23 MP, with a max resolution of 12,416 x 1,856 pixels.
Phase Detection Auto Focus
To maximize the value of Translucent Mirror Technology, Sony incorporates a sophisticated Phase Detection AF, with three cross sensors to maximize precision. While Contrast Detection AF often hunts for correct focus, Phase Detection AF knows exactly where correct focus is, and goes straight for it. The Sony SLT-A37 provides Phase Detection AF when capturing HD movies as well as during still image capture, either using the viewfinder or Live View on the LCD.
Main Sensor Live View with Quick AF
Main Sensor Live View with Quick AF combines the optimum focus of Phase Detection with high quality Live View images right from the main sensor. All made possible by Sony Translucent Mirror Technology.
Powerful, Creative Control Over Movies
While the camera offers fully automatic movie shooting, you can also control aperture (in Manual Focus mode only), white balance and select Creative Style. During a movie shot, you can change the metering mode and adjust exposure compensation.
Dynamic Range Optimizer (DRO)
Improves results with backlit subjects and recovers details hidden in shadows. Settings include Auto, Level--with a choice of five operating levels, and Off.
1200 Zone Exposure Metering
Reads exposure directly from the main image sensor. Choice of Multi, Center and Spot metering accommodates a full range of shooting situations.
RAW Image Capture
Save your pictures as compact JPEG files or ultra-high quality RAW files--or both. RAW files save images prior to compression, white balance, sharpness and color enhancement. This retains maximum latitude for enhancing the image on your PC.
P/A/S/M Exposure Modes
The camera offers a full range of controls from the beginner's AUTO+ mode to P/A/S/M: Program, Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority and Manual. On-screen prompts help you refine your skills, build your confidence and exercise greater creative control.
