Sony DT 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 SAM Overview

An ideal lens for everyday carry on an APS-C A-mount camera, the DT 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 SAM Lens from Sony offers outstanding versatility in a relatively compact form factor. Offering an extremely versatile 27-202.5mm equivalent zoom range, this one lens can cover most general shooting scenarios. It also uses one extra-low dispersion element and two aspherical elements to combat aberrations and flare. Ensuring optimal performance is the Smooth Autofocus Motor (SAM), a built-in system that provides smooth, quiet, and quick focusing that works well with the internal focus design to provide a minimum focus distance of 1.5'. Additionally, it has a seven-blade circular diaphragm for smooth bokeh.

Covering wide-angle to telephoto perspectives, this 18-135mm zoom is designed for APS-C format A-mount cameras, where it will provide a versatile 27-202.5mm equivalent focal length.
A variable f/3.5-5.6 maximum aperture helps ensure that lens size and weight is kept to a minimum.
One extra-low dispersion glass element is featured in the lens design to help reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing for improved clarity and color neutrality.
Two aspherical elements are incorporated in the lens design to reduce astigmatism, field curvature, coma, and other monochromatic aberrations.
By incorporating a Smooth Autofocus Motor (SAM) unit into the lens itself to drive the focusing element group, this lens is able to deliver smoother, quieter, and faster performance that coupled systems. Also, the internal focusing design helps to achieve a minimum focus distance of 1.5'.
Rounded seven-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality when employing selective focus techniques.

question

Can I use this lens for my Sony a6300 E mount?
Asked by: Hector L C.
The Sony 18-135mm f/ 3.5-5.6 Telephoto Zoom Lens uses the Sony A-mount/Minolta MAXXUM lens mount, while the Sony Alpha a6300 Mirrorless Digital Camera uses the Sony E-mount lens mount. The two are not directly compatible. If you wish to use the above lens on the Sony a6300, you would need to purchase a lens adapter, such as the Sony A-Mount to E-Mount Lens Adapter (Black), B&H # SOLAEA3, for your needs. If you are interested in a lens that will attach to the a6300 without the use of an adapter, then the lenses with the closest focal length range and usage as a substitute to the above lens would be either the Sony E PZ 18-105mm f/4 G OSS Lens, B&H # SO181054, or the Sony 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 OSS Lens for NEX Cameras, B&H # SO18200LE.

question

How is this lens in low light?
Asked by: Anonymous
The Sony 18-135mm f/ 3.5-5.6 Telephoto Zoom Lens would be decent for some low-light usage needs, though it would be helped by using a camera that also has good ISO performance. It is not the brightest zoom lens, and zoom lenses that are brighter than the f/3.5-5.6 aperture listed on the above lens typically have a shorter zoom range (and higher cost). A better option for low-light usage would be either the Sony 24-70mm f/2.8 ZA SSM II Vario-Sonnar T* Lens, B&H # SO2470282, the Sigma 24-105mm f/4 DG HSM Art Lens for Sony A, B&H # SI241054SO, or the more economical Tamron A09 SP AF 28-75mm f/2.8 XR Di LD Aspherical (IF) Macro Zoom, B&H # TA287528MAF.
