Kirk PZ-148 overview

  • 1Description

The Kirk PZ-148 Arca-Type Compact Quick Release Plate is an ultra-compact and lightweight quick release plate that is custom designed to snugly fit a Canon EOS 5D Mark III, 5DS, and 5DS R. Machined from 6061T6 industrial strength aluminum, it uses a weight-saving hollowed-out design. It also features an anti-twist lip that prevents the camera from rotating, especially during vertical shots.

This plate follows the industry-standard Arca-Swiss design, which also makes it compatible with quick release components from other manufacturers such as Arca-Swiss, Acratech, Foba, Graf/Studioball, Novoflex, and Wimberley.

    Kirk PZ-148 reviews

PZ-148 Arca-Type Compact Quick Release Plate for Canon EOS 5D Mark III, 5DS and 5DS R is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 23.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fit and Finish are Perfect This plate fit my 5DIII perfectly. It fits into my Arcatech ball head perfectly. It came with the L-wrenches needed for installation and includes stops, if you need them. I like the strap mounting point.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Low profile, perfect fit, well designed Well, it's a quick-release plate for the 5D Mark III. What more could you want? It turns out, you want a standard-thread hole so you don't have to take the plate off if you want to screw it onto a monopod, a Black Rapid strap, or other type of mount. You want a loop to hold a strap. You want a plate that does not interfere with the battery compartment. It's sturdy, doesn't wobble. I haven't found a need to take it off the body yet. The only downside I can think of is that you need a hex key wrench to remove it. It seems like if they were to use a finger-tighten screw that the base would need to be thicker, though, so the sleek low profile is worth the trade-off. Yes, I would recommend this to a friend, and in fact I already have.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quick Release Plate Releases Quickly I use it to attach my camera to my tripod ball head. The quality and features are much better than the plate on my other camera. A threaded hole that can be used to screw it into a non-quick-release mount and a strap loop. My mount is too deep for the safety stops to do any good. My only complaint is that it is not exactly the same size as my other plate making it difficult to adjust the lever on my quick release to firmly grab both plates. I have to make a little adjustment every time and that is a bummer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love It! The strap look allows me to permanently attach my sling strap to the camera plate and leave the plate on the camera (canon 5dm3) all the time. My camera always has the strap attached and I can quickly put my camera on the tripod whenever I need too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Smaller, lighter than RRS So far (1 month) this has been an excellent plate. Very well made, good fit, and easy to use. It mates nicelyl with my BH-55 Really Right Stuff quick release plate - not overly tight as a few posters have experienced. This plate is narrower (side to side) and lots lighter than the Really Right Stuff plate for the Canon 5D series. The only implication of less side to side size is that you can't slide your camera as far off-center, although I've never had a reason to do so.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Much better than a generic plate I'll admit this coss a little more than something you will find online but, it fits perfectly, is well-manufactured and does the job. I had a generic plate that seemed fine until I went for the Kirk. The small slot lets me use this with my wrist strap. The only negative I can think of is that the supplied blot uses an Allen wrench. If this came with a folding tab to tighten the bolt it would be perfect. I would recommend this for anyone.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not really compact this product was and upgrade from the generic Arca-type plate I had that would slip or shift slightly during long exposures. the PZ-148 Arca-Type Compact Quick Relase Plate by Kirk hugs my 5D III very well and there is no slip at all during long exposures but I wouldn't call it compact by any means. It's much larger then the generic plate that it replaced.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Fit This is my second Plate from Kirk, and it works and looks great. I have been using an L-bracket on my Canon 5D MKII for over 6 years and it has performed also flawlessly. The reason I chose the plate for my 5D SR over the L-bracket was the added weight factor and the not-so-easy access to tethering port.
