A versatile all-around lens, the Summicron-M 50mm f/2 from Leica is a normal-length prime featuring a fast f/2 maximum aperture to benefit working in low-light as well as offering greater control over depth of field. A six elements, four groups optical design provides even brightness and sharpness across the image frame, and also helps to virtually eliminate distortion for clean, natural rendering. Beyond its optical performance, the lens is also compact for everyday use, its manual focus design permits working with subjects as close as 2.3', and it has a built-in expandable lens hood to prevent lens flare and ghosting.

Leica Summicron-M 50mm f/2 Reviews
Little beast
I bought this for my Sony a7riv and imideatly felt in love. Later on I bought the SL2s my favorite combo right now.
Great Instument
If only the poet was paid for the poetry, what great art we would have.
Just Perfect
There’s a reason why the Leica and 50mm are so sought after. The combination is perfect. Don’t hesitate to buy this lens!
Liked it so much, bought a Summicron-M 35mm f/2 lens, too.
Bought this 50MM f/2 lens for my new M10R. Liked it so much that 2 days later I bought a fraternal twin Summicron 35MM f/2 lens from B&H Photo to go with it. With some good luck I even talked to the same B&H sales person. The lenses are a perfect match in function, quality and ease of use with the world class M10R. B&H is my photo equipment supplier.
No surprises
Cleanly sharp. Smooth focusing. Small and light. I really miss the thumb knob that used to grace all Leitz lenses.
Sharp and Compact
Just what I expected; very sharp pictures; easy to focus; compact lens.
Great lens
Maybe the person that gave this lens 2 stars needs to calibrate his rangefinder. This lens well built and produces sharp images wide open. Although it lacks the focus tab of other Leica lenses I don't have an issues with this as I do not zone focus with a 50mm.
Overpriced ' Not Sharp ' poor ergonomics '
Let's start with the positive; its tiny, its light, its 'leica' - if money is sincerely no object....then get something better. Build quality: the aperture ring is far too easy to adjust. Even with my moderate sized hands - I find myself adjusting the aperture accidentally while I am focusing. Overpriced: This is just as expensive as the best of the best mirrorless lenses...you can get a sony a7c + 40 for the same price...pretty absurd imo. Not Sharp: Simply put - this lens is not sharp at anything higher than 5.6 and unless you have perfect lighting conditions... good luck getting a clean, noiseless image. Further, a 50 is impossible to focus on anything moving with the higher apertures..not that it matters because it won't be sharp. If you're okay with the 'quality' this lens provides...just shoot film. It'll still be cheaper. Overall - don't waste your time buying this lens unless you're, for some reason, collecting all leica lenses. Why'd I give it two stars? Because its compact, light and if you're shooting garden gnomes or parked cars in adequate lighting - you'll get some character.
