Oben AC-1361 overview

  • 1Description

The AC-1361 3-Section Aluminum Tripod with BA-117 Ball Head from Oben is a lightweight (4.4 lb) tripod that provides reliable support for any camera and lens up to 17.6 lb.

The tripod's 3-section aluminum legs and center column extend to a maximum height of 67.5", and when folded, the entire system is a compact 27.3". Flip locks on each leg enable extremely fast deployment and retraction of leg stages. Three leg angles are possible, and pull-tab locks secure the legs in their notches. The legs' angles are independently adjustable to accommodate shooting on uneven terrain. At the widest leg angle, the tripod sits extremely close to the ground to facilitate low-angle shooting. The tripod's feet feature rubber tips which are great for shooting on slippery or hard surfaces.

The tripod's rapid center column extends with a twist of the wingnut locking knob. For protection when it's retracted quickly, there's a rubber damper that protects the center-post collar. Locking screws underneath the collar enable you to fasten the head securely to the chassis. By unscrewing the spring-loaded hook at the bottom end, the center column becomes removable and reversible, for a second method of achieving extremely low-angle shots. The center column's hook holds a counterweight, in case you need additional system stability.

The BA-117 has a single-action knob that allows you to unlock all axes of movement in one fell swoop, so you can quickly orient your camera properly, retighten the knob, and return to shooting. The ball-locking mechanism is remarkably strong for reliably stable performance.

The included quick-release plate attaches to your camera via its standard 1/4"-20 screw, and easily snaps and locks into place on the head.

Two bull's eye bubble levels will allow you to align your frame with the horizon, in both portrait and landscape orientations. The BA-113 features a 90° groove for tilting the camera to portrait orientation.

This tripod also includes a fitted, padded carry case with a removable shoulder strap, two heavy-duty zippers, and an interior zipper pocket. A tool clip with two hex wrenches for adjusting the center column and the leg joints is also included. It snaps onto any of the tripod legs for easy access.

A spring-loaded counterweight hook is located at the bottom of the center column. The column can be separated into 2 parts to give you a short column for low angle and macro work
Leg cushions on 2 legs provide a firm grip in cold or wet weather
Two included Allen keys attach to a tripod leg, so you're always ready to tighten components
Padded carry bag provides a snug fit for the tripod/head combination and features two heavy-duty zippers, an interior pocket with a zipper, and a shoulder strap
Angle adjustment locks keep legs at the chosen angles
Center column is grooved to prevent rotation
Angled rubber feet for maximum contact with the ground
Tripod features reversible 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 screw to fit almost any head

    Oben AC-1361 reviews

AC-1361 3-Section Aluminum Tripod with BA-117 Ball Head is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 28.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple, Sturdy, Versatile I would describe this tripod with three terms: simple, versatile, and well made. The ball-head design is simple but effective. My old tripod had numerous knobs, levers, and cranks that made it difficult to put my eye in the viewfinder window. The ball-head uses only a collar to control the up/down position of the post. Loosen the collar, lift the camera to where you want it, and lock the collar. The ball head allows the camera to pivot 360 degrees in latitude and to angle upward and downward. Loosen a small knob, point the camera where you want it, and lock the knob. The locking mechanism is tight and positive, with little creep. The tripod also is versatile, with the legs adjustable to three pre-set angles that allow close-up photography. The post is also easily reversible, allowing the camera to be mounted under the tripod. The tripod is relatively compact, light in weight, and very well made. The only problem I had was that some of the pivot points were extremely tight when I first began using the tripod. They quickly loosened with use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value First tripod purchase and for a novice this is fantastic value for the features. The tripod has a level and so does the ball head. Stable and sturdy with my 70D with 400mm zoom. Easy to operate, even in vertical mode with graduations for panoramas. It isn't high end, but great features for the money. Locks down tight on ball head. Quick release tabs on legs, sets up quickly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Awesome I have been trying to teach myself photography and using my husbands old tripod. I didn't really know what I needed and the gentleman at B&H was totally awesome in helping me. The tripod is everything he said it was. It is easy to use outside and indoors. The ball head is smooth and easy to use. I am having so much fun with it.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Light duty I bought this tripod for an SLR camera with a 200 mm lens that weighs about 2lb. I quickly found this tripod is too light duty for this application and B+H was kind enough to allow me to return the tripod. I should have studied the weight of the tripod better, so it was my fault for buying such a light duty one. If you had a compact camera it would be great. I noticed in the features they showed lightweight was a benefit. With a heavier camera and lens. lightweight is a problem ! I couldn't figure why a person would ever need as many bubbles as this tripod had !

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Get this ASAP! #sweepstakes Love this tripod. I got it as a proper replacement to a cheaper beginner tripod. As a 6 foot tall person I LOVE how tall this thing gets. With the center column extended I would say a 6'5 person could comfortably use this. The legs are STURDY, which is great because I shoot video and people even walking around used to shake my old tripod. I've used it indoors, in snow on uneven surfaces, and the street - this thing does not wobble or shake (it has a hook though, if you're worried!) The ball head is awesome too, i didn't realize how much I'd use it! #sweepstakes

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Working Great so far I'm using it for landscape photography. I use it on short hikes at rivers, beaches etc. I haven't tried the low profile setup yet but so far this is working out great. The ball head is working well and seems sturdy. I hope it will last a couple years for my usage.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Oben Tripod First Time Buyer The tripod is study. No movement. The leg adjustment is easy. The tripod isn't cold to the touch in cold weather. But it's a light tripod. Heavier items may allow it to tip. The BA-117 ball head is cumbersome. The small adjustment handle is hard to work with. It seems difficult for me to get the head to be where I want it to be. So I immediately purchased a 3 way pan/tilt head. This tripod would be alright for lighter weight cameras or devices. But the Oben heads are cumbersome to me, after having gotten use to the Manfrotto tripod and heads.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice Tripod I am new to photography so had no clue what to look for in a tripod. This unit is sturdy and has multiple levels keeping your camera straight. This is my first experience with a ball head, or any decent tripod, but it seems to me that you should be able to rotate the head using the graduations without loosening the same lock as the camera.
