Oben AC-1441 Tripod with BA-111 Ball Head Overview

The Oben AC-1441 4-Section Aluminum Tripod with BA-111 Ball Head provides reliable support for DSLRs, point-and-shoot cameras or video cameras up to 11 lb.

The tripod's three-section legs are fabricated from high tensile strength aluminum. It rises to a maximum height of 61.6" with the center column fully extended and folds down to a compact 21.3" for transport. Flip locks on the legs facilitate rapid setup and break down. Three leg angles: normal (80°), low (55°) and extra low (24°) are available via angle adjustment tabs at the joint of each leg. You can reverse the column with a twist of the butterfly knob or split it in two and use the short column for macro and low angle shooting as low as 8.3" from the ground. Any combination of leg angles can be combined to accommodate uneven terrain, stairs or obstructions. A built-in bubble level helps you square up your compositions. For extra stability, the center column employs a spring-loaded counterbalance hook.

The included BA-111 ball head features a single-action knob that controls its rotation and 360 degree panning while a robust ball-locking mechanism secures it solidly. The head's four bubble levels ensure accurate panoramas. The BA-111's built-in quick release comes with a camera plate that features a standard 1/4"-20 screw and a retractable, removable video pin to provide additional stability for camcorders. Since the head is removable, locking screws underneath the collar thwart torsion when re-attaching. The tripod comes with a carry case and shoulder strap for storage and transport.

A spring-loaded counterweight hook is located at the bottom of the center column. The column can be separated into two parts to give you a short column for low angle and macro work
Leg cushions on two legs provide a firm grip in cold or wet weather
Two included hex keys attach to a tripod leg, so you're always ready to tighten components
Padded carry bag provides a snug fit for the tripod/head combination and features two heavy-duty zippers, an interior pocket with a zipper, and a shoulder strap
Angle adjustment locks keep legs at the chosen angles
Center column is grooved to prevent rotation
Angled rubber feet for maximum contact with the ground
Tripod features reversible 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 screw to fit almost any head

Oben AC-1441 Tripod with BA-111 Ball Head Reviews

needs a bigger ball head

This is a well-designed and built lightweight tripod that needs a heavier duty ball head in order to reliably hold a DSLR and a heavier duty lens. When I placed a Sony A7Rii with a battery pack and a Sigma 35mm art lens for Canon with lens converter, I couldn't keep it from slipping down a bit. Not good if you want to use the tripod to capture longer exposures. So, for $67 more, I bought a different ball head manufactured by Artcise and rated for 44 lbs (as opposed to 11 lb rating given the BA-111). The heavier duty ball head fit on top of the tripod just fine and can hold a Sigma 100-400mm lens with no slippage. So, Oben needs to beef up the design, I'd say. No sense hiking miles to take a picturesque mountain view and find out you may as well have just lugged the camera alone and used higher ISO.

Lightweight aluminum, tall, solid build and feel, nice legs that use clips to adjust height. The ball-head is nice and it has bubble levels which help align things up to start. The clip for placing on the ball-head is quick and very secure. The center pole has a weight hook too, though I’ve found it unnecessary to use so far. Fits nicely on the side of my camera bag when traveling and hiking as well. Overall, an excellent buy for people on a budget.

Nice but not perfect

This is a huge upgrade from my previous lightweight tripod. I use this for real estate photography and its weight and sturdiness keep everything still for great HDR photos. I like how easy it is to adjust from either in front of or behind the camera. The only reason not a 5 star tripod is the levels, I'm not sure just how accurate they are, plus, they are small and while easy to see from behind the camera, when I reverse things so I can set up in a corner, the lens hides the one I really want to see. I hope that's not too picky, but it's the one thing I would like to see improved. Other than that, very happy. Great recommendation from B&H as always!

Broke after only a few times use

This tripod is simply terrible. One of the leg caps ripped off without a reason, it is definitely not dropped hard or damaged by excessive shock / force. The customer service was okay but the replacement flip lock cost me a few bucks plus shipping. It is another nightmare to install the replacement lock: the design is so weird that I have no way to depart it once I snapped in the bearing. And I am not able to properly put in one of the parts because the bearing is already in. Overall super bad experience, I'm throwing it away not trying to fix it anymore. Wasted my money and time.

Not ACRA compatible

After using this tripod for years, I had to replace the head. I now use an ACRA compatible L-bracket from Small Rig on my Sony A7RIII all the time and needed ACRA compatibility. L-brackets are the best way to go for landscape to portrait.

Can the head be used with out the center post like it can on the AC-1431?
Asked by: Anonymous
Yes the column comes apart with the supplied Allen Key like the 1431. By taking it apart the column is then very small and can used instead of the full column. This is an image link showing it,
