Oben CT-2491 Overview

The CT-2491 Carbon Fiber Tripod from Oben is an extremely sturdy support for any DSLR, mirrorless or point-and-shoot camera or camcorder. With a load capacity of 39.6 lb and a maximum height of 72.5", the tripod offers a number of advanced features that ensure its stability and reliable performance.

The tripod features ergonomically designed rubber twist locks on each leg. Because legs are non-rotating, all three of a leg's locks can be disengaged at once with a single twist of the wrist. This enables extremely fast setup of the CT-2491. A thoughtful leg design makes it a simpler task to service and maintain the leg sections.

With its 6x carbon fiber legs and center column, the CT-2491 is relatively lightweight (3.50 lb) and solid, ready to survive the rigors of professional work. The tripod chassis is cast aluminum alloy for further strength.

The CT-2491's rapid center column extends with a twist of the butterfly knob. For protecting your camera when the column is retracted quickly, there's a rubber damper under the center-post collar. Steel locking screws underneath the collar enable you to fasten a camera head more securely.

Pull-in/push-out positive leg locks allow you to set the positions of the three legs independently at three different angles. This allows you to shoot from low angles or on uneven terrain. For stability on softer terrain, the CT-2491 features metal spikes that retract and emerge by twisting the foot's rubber portion.

For extreme low-angle shooting, the center column can be split into two sections with the provided hex key. The shorter column leaves no protruding parts under the tripod collar, allowing you to extend the legs out to their maximum angle. For a faster method, the center column is also easily reversible. These features are especially ideal for macro and close-up photography. The retractable metal counterweight hook serves as a stopper at the bottom of the center column.

Ergonomically designed rubber twist locks on each leg are non-rotating so all three of a leg's locks can be disengaged at once with a single twist of the wrist enabling fast setup
Legs with four sections tend to collapse shorter for easier portability. The CT-2491 folds to 23.3".
Reversible 1/4"-20 & 3/8"-16 screw fits almost any head
Bubble level on tripod chassis
Center column is grooved to prevent its rotation
Split center column for low angle set-up
Spring-loaded metal counterweight hook at the bottom of the center column

I bought tripod for use for my Swarovski spotting scope. I'm very happy with balance and stability in the wind. Set up is easy and works great in all terrain.

This tripod is capable of very tall range and is lighter than my smaller manfrotto one. Very flexible in design and rock solid in the sand with a great bubble level to align my currently cheap pan and tilt head. Thrilled with this tripod and will use for a very long time!

I was aiming for a tripod and head combination that would weigh around 5 lb. This tripod got me close to hat goal. I considered another that was slightly lighter but the difference in price was not worth the few ounces saved. This Oben handles my Sony a7r4 and 100-400 lens easily. The set-up is quick and the feel is sturdy and stable. I've only had it in he field a couple of times, but I have no doubts that it will serve me well for a long time.

I purchased the CT-2491 specifically for use with a long lens outdoors. I'm using my old workhorse Canon 5D mk iii, and pairing it with a Sigma 150-600. It supports the weight easily and without much movement. So far it feels quite steady and still. The tripod mechanisms work incredibly well. I find the design to be intuitive to use in the moment. The twist to extend legs work smoothly and quietly. The carbon fiber doesn't get as cold to the touch as my other tripods metal legs in colder weather. Though I will likely add wraps to the upper portion of the legs at some point. The tripod is lightweight and easy to carry around. The carry case is nice, but I mostly just strap the bare tripod to my backpack to transport. I have used both a ball head, a video head, and the Oben GH-30 gimbal on the tripod depending on the project I'm working on, and haven't had any issues. I've even used it with my wooden Graflex 4x5 Crown View camera! In fact, the more I use the tripod the more I want to get another to use with all my indoor photography projects as well. At this price point, getting one is a no-brainer.

I REALLY like this tripod for the precision work I need to do in the lab. The leg collars tighten up firmly with no slip, the telescoping leg segments fit snugly within each other with little apparent play, and the overall steadiness of the platform is fantastic with no discernable vibration affecting the image quality with long exposure times. Great product and super buy for the money and highly recommend to anyone.

It's lightweight, easy to set up, easy to extend and very sturdy. It came with a nice carrying case which, although not a big deal, is actually pretty handy. I've only used it about 6 times so far, but I'm extremely pleased. Everything I wanted in a CF tripod at a VERY low price.

Can this tripod be used in water?
Asked by: John
Definitely! It has rubberized feet that can be screwed in and out to expose or hide the little metal pointy tips. The entire body is carbon fiber along with rubber accents and what appears to be aluminum points on the base of the three feet. So all those components are all waterproof. I have used it many times in a foot of water with no issues at all. It's a beautifully built and sturdy tripod. Just a light rinse to remove debris and any water will drain out onto the ground.

Is the maximum working height of 72.5" only achieved with the center column extended all the way up?
Asked by: Sean
Yes - the maximum height of 72.5 inches is with the center column extended all the way up. The maximum height of the tripod by itself, not counting the center column, is 60 inches. Also, you might put a head on the center column. My ball head adds another 4.5 inches, my gimbal head adds at least 6 inches. Then you have the height of your camera plus a release plate.

Yes. But for maintenance purposes, please clean and dry each leg section (before collapsing the tripod) that's been submerged to avoid salt and sediments from gumming up your twist locks.
