Sekonic RT-32CTL overview

  • 1Description

The Sekonic RT-32CTL Radio Transmitter Module provides wireless triggering capabilities of PocketWizard radios and enabled devices to the Sekonic L-358 and L-758 series light meters. This module installs easily into the rear of the meter to aid in a streamlined flash metering workflow. It is compatible with ControlTL devices, such as the MiniTT1 and FlexTT5 radios, for TTL flash metering as well as non TTL-dedicated PocketWizard devices, such as the Plus and MultiMax series of transceivers, for triggering on all 32 standard PocketWizard channels and selective Quad-Triggering control.

This model is designed for use in both FCC-designated devices for operation in North America as well as CE-designated devices for operation in Europe.

    Sekonic RT-32CTL reviews

RT-32CTL Radio Transmitter Module is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 58.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from part of a package I was tired of powering strobes up and down, on and off, by walking to them. With my Buff lights and the Pocketwizard triggers, in addition to the AC3 and AC9 units, I COULD control power from the camera. But since my Sekonic 758 could only trigger on standard channels, I had to choose between using the meter and the convenience of on-camera power control. No more. With this Sekonic upgrade which will trigger standard and CTL channels, I have my cake and can eat it too. Now I can measure light with the meter as before, but can also use CTL channels (still in a manual mode) to allow power control of lighting from the camera.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent for use with PW'sCTL triggers Some use flash meters, others scoff at them and some use them intermittently. I'm in the latter category but mostly that was because I had no way to trigger the TT5 units especially when using the studio strobes with them and yes, I mix them up some times using both. I could live without the CTL module but it makes things a bit easier which for me means one less thing. On a L-358 you are sort of relegated to specific channel sets since std channels have to match the CTL channel freq. but I find it easy to live with. Use and set up is a breeze. I can't say its the something I couldn't live without, but it does work well, it does whats its supposed to as advertised and lately thats a win right there.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great addition to my L-358 A must have if you have a compatible Sekonic meter and use PocketWizard TTL triggers. Works as advertised. My main complaint is that the documentation is poor. Also the channel numbers on the meter don't match the PW channel numbers. A table on a small piece a paper provides the translation. Be sure to make a copy as I could not find it online.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great device and can work any where. I am glad I got this for my Sekonic L 358 light meter. I was looking for a Sekonic RT and found that Sekonic had release a new product some time ago. I had to found out more on the product on the internet and watch 2 videos on on Youtube and I was serprise to find that the Sekonic RT -32CTL Module can be use any where in the world which was good since I live in Australia. I came here B&H and decieded to buy it. The delivery took about a week to get here and was all good. I put it in my L-358 light meter and it took a while to learn and is working great!! with my pocket wizards FlexTTL5 and MiniTT1. I am glad to have this and it is easy to use in most photographic work.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Long awaited addition to ControlTL syste RT-23CTL and L-358. While not a pre-requisite for using a Sekonic meter with a ControlTL system, this module adds the same degree of transparency as RT-32 offered with the classic PW system. On channels 1-4, this module will allow you to trigger all zones at once. On channels 5-20, you have the option of triggering zones A, B, C and D (the last one supported by MultiMax and Plus III) independent of each other as well as all at once.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works very well I have recently changed radio triggers from Cactus V5 to Pocketwizard PlusX so in order to set lighting ratios easier I bought the Sekonic RT-32CTL trans module. I use this in a Sekonic L-358 meter and it has made setting up more efficient. The only quirk the L-358 has changing the channel for each flash. Fortunately, most of the time I only use one flash so it's only a minor problem if more are used plus on the PlusX's all of the channels have to be reset to a common one. This doesn't seem to be a problem with the Plus III's but since my daughters gave me the Pocketwizards as a gift I can easily live with it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointingly inconsistent I got this module to work with my Sekonic L-358,Canon 580-EX II, and my Pocket Wizard Flex TT5/Mini TT1. I had hoped to be able to use the TTL function through the meter. Setup was as easy as plugging the module into the back of my meter. However, once it was plugged in, it would fire the flash couple of times and then not at all. Sometimes it would fire at once and then quit. If I moved out of line of sight or farther than 8 feet away it would not work at all. I had my Mini TT1 in my hand as well. It fired the flash (with the Flex TT5 attached) every time. I'm not sure if it is because of transmission problems with the module, or if they are still attempting to solve firmware problems as this is a new product. I was trying to operate in basic function mode (non-TTL) and it was still inconsistent. I think I will go back to my RT-32 module. It doesn't work TTL but at least it is consistent. The last thing I need on a shoot is to try to figure out why my flash meter isn't triggering my flash is consistently.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not reliable It has serious range issue. If you use portable flash makes radio interference, your light meter will only work within 6 feet. Doesn't matter you syncs with plus II, MAX or III. Your Seknonic light meter's antenna is not any strong enough. This is known problem. Their tech support says place PW in distance. That sounds a joke to me. Anyway I tried but didn't make great improvement. This is should a handy solution for people has limited gear and want to place light further distance. Works good in studio environment with strobe packs though.
