Zacuto Pro 2.5x Overview

The Z-Finder Pro 2.5x for 3.2" Screens from Zacuto is an optical viewfinder that videographers may find necessary for shooting sharp, stable video on DSLR cameras like the Canon 5D MkIII, Nikon D800, or others with the same size LCD display. Whether shooting handheld or on a tripod, the Z-Finder Pro turns your camera's 3.2" LCD screen into a clear, easy-to-focus viewfinder that lets you see your image in magnified detail, even under the brightest sunlight. Just as crucially, the Z-Finder Pro provides an extra degree of handling comfort and a crucial point of contact--between camera and eye--that adds stability to any handheld video.

The Pro 2.5x version offers an adjustable diopter for near or far sighted users, and the LCD image is enlarged by a factor of 2.5x, so you can see every detail for pinpoint focus. The diopter's extended range of -4.75 and up makes it especially useful for those who are nearsighted. The Z-Finder attaches to your camera via the included Gorilla Baseplate and mounting frame, which mount to the bottom of your camera using a standard 1/4"-20 screw. A non-stick rubber backing ensures a tight fit and prevents scratching of the LCD screen, so that the entire Z-Finder snaps off easily when not in use.

Note:
If you already have a Z-Finder, you can purchase just the Z-Finder 3.2" Frame for small body cameras.
2.5x magnification.
40mm diameter lens for excellent light throughput.
Allows 3.2" DSLR camera displays to have correct form factor for video.
Field of view perfectly matches 3.2" LCD screen size.
The diopter's extended range of -4.75 and up makes it especially useful for those who are nearsighted.
Note:
The Z-finder is a magnifier and as such will magnify the sun and could damage the LCD screen if the sun is allowed to shine directly through the Z-finder lens. This is not a defect but a physical property. Caution should be taken to avoid sun magnification.

Helped with focus

Have had trouble with consistent focus on the 5D Mk IV. Using this to focus on screen rather than viewfinder has made a big difference. Had to get the special mounting frame also as I shoot with a battery grip. Mechanics of installation is a bit challenging but once I figured it all out, I'm quite happy. Also, had to use all three extender / back-focus rings. One thing...even squeezing body at logos, the unit REALLY doesn't want to come off the mounting frame.

question

Will this Zacuto Z finder fit on top of a Manfrotto 410 with a Canon 5dMk4?Would it still be able to flip down so you could access the Canon LCD or would it crash into the gear head before completing the flip?
Asked by: Tim S.
Yes, this will fit on top of the of a Manfrotto 410 tripod head. However, this viewfinder pops on and off. It does not flip.

question

Does it work with canon 6D?
Asked by: Anonymous
As the 6D has a 3 LCD, the Z-Finder Pro 2.5x for 3.2 Screens would not be the correct option for the 6D. According to Zacuto, the Z-Finder Pro 2.5x (ZAZFINDPRO2) would be the way to go with the Canon 6D.

question

Is this the right size for the canon 5d mk ii screen?
Asked by: Anonymous
No, it is not. The Zacuto Z-Finder Compatibility Charts indicates the Canon EOS 5D Mark II DSLR camera would require either the Z-Finder Pro 2.5x (B&H # ZAZFINDPRO2), the Z-Finder Pro 3x (B&H # ZAZFINDPRO3), or the Z-Finder Jr (B&H # ZAZFINDJR) for use with the 5D Mark II. The Z-Finder Pro 2.5x for 3.2 screens is not listed as recommended for the 5D Mark II. http://bit.ly/1jvFLo8

Will this work with the Canon R5c?

Will this work with the Canon R5c?
Asked by: Jason
I just got the R5C and the tripod screw thread is to far from the screen to mount this Zacuto Z-finder. The base plate is not long enough to bridge the space between the screw thread and the screen. Did anyone else find a work around?

question

Does this and the 3.0x version work with the Fuji XT2?
Asked by: Shree L.
The 2.5x and 3.0x magnification options are a personal preference and will work either way. However, the 3.0 and 3.2 sizes may not be perfectly compatible with the Fujifilm X-T2 camera. It is recommended to use the 3.0 sized Zacuto for the camera for a more proper fit. The larger 3.2 size will cover more of the rear of the camera and possibly some buttons.
