Zacuto Z-Finder Pro Overview

The Z-Finder Pro 3.0x for 3.2" Screens from Zacuto is an optical viewfinder that videographers may find necessary for shooting sharp, stable video on DSLR cameras like the Canon 5D MkIII, Nikon D800, or others with the same size LCD display. Whether shooting handheld or on a tripod, the Z-Finder Pro turns your camera's 3.2" LCD screen into a clear, easy-to-focus viewfinder that lets you see your image in magnified detail, even under the brightest sunlight. Just as crucially, the Z-Finder Pro provides an extra degree of handling comfort and a crucial point of contact--between camera and eye--that adds stability to any handheld video.

The Pro 3.0x version offers an adjustable diopter for near or far sighted users, and the LCD image is enlarged by a factor of 3.0x, so you can see every detail for pinpoint focus. The Z-Finder attaches to your camera via the included Gorilla Baseplate and mounting frame, which mount to the bottom of your camera using a standard 1/4"-20 screw. A non-stick rubber backing ensures a tight fit and prevents scratching of the LCD screen, so that the entire Z-Finder snaps off easily when not in use.

Note:
If you already have a Z-Finder, you can purchase just the Z-Finder 3.2" Frame for small body cameras.
3.0x magnification.
40mm diameter lens for excellent light throughput.
Allows 3.2" DSLR camera displays to have correct form factor for video.
Field of view perfectly matches 3.2" LCD screen size.

question

Is this usable on a Nikon D500?
Asked by: IVAN
The D500 has the same screen dimensions as my D800E and D810. The Zacuto fits perfectly and is the only real accessory if you are using Zeiss lenses, as I do. My advice is practice the put on/ removal sequence, once you get it it will become second nature. Whoever you are, congratulations, the zacuto is the Rolls Royce of magnifiers, I know this as I have purchased all the cheaper alternatives and they are appalling.

question

I have a 6d, and 70d both....is there one z-finder that will work for both?
Asked by: Shane
This one works fine for my 5DMarkII and 5DMarkIII. I think it will work for any camera as long as the screen is not that high like in the 1DX or Nikon's D4s. Of course some screens are smaller other a little bigger but I don't find that a deal breaker since the purpose of this item is to focus correctly and mostly those are the center areas of the frame and you can always recompose.

question

Is 100% of the screen viewable? Or, does this allow one to view only the center portion while blocking the top, bottom & sides?
Asked by: Dan Q.
Yes. I can see the whole DSLR LED view screen. Works well for me.

Thank you so much for both your replies. James, did you find an alternative that meets your requirements?

question

Does the Zacuto Z-Finder Pro 3.0x for 3.2 Screens fit the Nikon D4s ?

Zacuto sells a frame that is spaced for large DSLRs, search for Z-Finder 3.2 Mounting Frame for Tall DSLR Bodies .

question

Is this the right model for a Nikon D750? Thanks in advance! L
Asked by: Anonymous
No. I bought this for the D750 and had to return it. The screen on the D750 sits almost flush with the bottom of the camera body, and the thumbscrews for the Z frame interfere with mounting the loupe that low. It's a difference of millimeters, but it is enough to be unusable. The frame obscures the shutter speed, aperture, etc information along the bottom of the screen. I suppose you could shim the gorilla plate, or find lower profile screws, to make it work. Too bad, this is a killer product and very well made.
