    BG-N7 Battery Grip for Nikon D800, D800E & D810 is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 210.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not worth it I purchased this battery grip for my D810 and although I initially gave it a good review, i have since changed my opinion on this product. Initially it worked well, but after using mine a few months now, it seems to have a problem maintaining a connection. Both in the battery compartment and the connection between it and the camera. It gets pretty frustrating seeing the green light light up everytime the camera is moved. Indicating to me that the connectors are shorting out. The short also prevented the camera from transferring power when the grip's battery was removed. So, if you have money to burn, I recommend the OEM version instead of this.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not a direct replacement for nikon Do not buy this thinking it a direct replacement for the Nikon unit. It is NOT. This unit fit nicely. It did work in that it does run the camera as advertised. It is also larger in every dimension than the nikon. Not a little bit, around a quarter inch bigger. What this means is that no L bracket from any of the major makers can work with this item! The battery tray can thus not be removed without actually taking the bracket off. The door cannot be opened to connect cables as the additional height means it mis-aligns the brackets. Had this been a true clone of the nikon size it would be quite nice. For most professional uses I do not recommend it. Should a purchaser never intend to mount this to a tripod it is a fair buy.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent quality for the Price I shoot a lot of rural landscapes, beach scenes and wildlife and I use the vertical format a lot so I was in the market for study grip for my D800E. My first look was at the Nikon version of this grip. No question it is well built and if you want to spend the money, go for it. I decided to save 300 bucks and try the vello. I have a Nikon Grip on my D600 so it's easy to compare. If I have to nitpick I'd say the color may be off a tiny bit. It is sturdy, perhaps a bit larger than the Nikon grip. I've been shooting with it for a week now on and off tripods and have no complaints. Everything works. It does what it says it does. I gave it five stars.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do Not Buy! Damaged my D810! If I could give this product 0 stars I would. The very first day I received this grip, I brought it along to use on a newborn shoot. After about 45 minutes or so of use, the camera just died on me. I anxiously changed out batteries several times and unscrewed the grip and still nothing. I stopped using the grip immediately and sent the camera into Nikon for repair. They had to replace the Power PCB and repair a battery drain. The D810 was only 5 months old and working perfectly before attaching this grip. If the camera wasn't still under warranty it would have been a very costly repair. Never again. I learned my lesson and will only buy Nikon from now on. B&H should stop selling this product immediately.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far so good When I called B&H I had every intention of ordering the Nikon MB-D12 even though I thought it was highway robbery what they were asking for it. The fine gentleman on the phone suggested I try the Vello BG-N7. If I wasn't happy I could return it. So far I am very pleased with this product and can see no reason to spend three times as much. More importantly, this is the service that keeps me coming back to B&H. Believe me I have always been pleased with their response to my questions and quality of service provided. I have the Nikon MB-D10 for my D700 and frankly can't tell any quality difference between the two!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 30 days in, works ok but not great I wanted to run this baby through the gauntlet first. I hate it when ppl write reviews after only a few days. This grip has come with me to several weddings/receptions. The buttons, wheels, battery tray, and connections work as intended so far. The only thing that I'm not so keen on is that there is some movement between the grip and the body when I support the weight of the cam & lens with this accessory grip. I understand that by the nature of the product, it'll never be rock solid. It's a tradeoff I'm willing to make to have the added ease of taking pix in portrait orientation...Oh yeah, and saving a couple hunderd $ over the Nikon branded grip.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked great for 2 years. I am giving this grip 5 stars because I bought it together with my D810 and it worked great for two years. I bought my camera in July 2014. In May 2016 I started getting an occasional error message on the D810 in the form of Err and the camera would not work at all. This week, I realized that the Err message would immediately go away after the grip was removed. I still question whether it was the grip or the battery inside the grip causing the problem. Unfortunately, an issue like this is not easy to pinpoint. I am not quite sure if I should replace the grip or replace the batteries at this point.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great for the price I wanted to add a grip since I do a lot of portraits and it makes my life easier. Couldn't justify the more expensive Nikon grip so I went with this. So far, so good! Attaches easily, good battery life, & I haven't had some of the issues related to size of the grip that others have posted, but I rarely use my bracket. The only negative thing is that the multi-selector has trouble moving past center to the top (right) of the frame. If I have a second I can keep trying, but usually I just use the camera's selector. An annoyance, but overall I am happy I bought it. Being slightly annoyed is worth the price difference!
